Last Minute Atlanta Questions
Thanks everyone for your help for our upcoming trip to Atlanta. I have just a couple last minute questions!
We are staying at the Georgian Terrace and are going to the Braves game Saturday evening. Is it best to just take a cab? We tried looking at the Marta website but had trouble figuring out the best way to go. Also, we plan on taking Marta from the airport to the hotel. We think we are supposed to take Red or Orange to the N1 North station. Is this correct? We plan on doing the aquarium Friday afternoon (already have tickets), Piedmont Park, the botanical gardens and the Braves game on Saturday, but we're having trouble coming up with things for Sunday. My husband probably would like to go to another Braves game but is there something we're missing? We have jotted down the Cyclorama, the Titanic exhibit, Martin Luther King, etc., but don't know if that will appeal to us. We love being outside and are active. We thought of Stone Mountain but don't plan on renting a car. We aren't interested in CNN and Coke is closed. We are deciding between Mitra and the italian cafe close to the hotel (both recommended here, thanks!) for our anniversary dinner and might go to Churchhill Grounds for some jazz that evening. Any other ideas? Thanks so much! |
Marta is definitely your best bet to the Braves game, and it's super easy.
Just go to the North Ave. station (which is about a block from your hotel), and take the train South. You'll get off at Five Points, and there will be signs everywhere pointing you to the Braves shuttles. From the airport, yes, you'll go North. You can take either train at the station - both go North and to your station (they don't split off onto seperate lines until after downtown). The Cyclorama is pretty boring (imo) unless you're a total history nut, and it's only worth a visit if you're doing the Zoo at the same time. Martin Luther King is pretty cool and worthwhile. Stone Moutain is definitely worthwhile, but you're right that you'd need a car. Atlanta unfortunately isn't a great public transit city and there's not much you can do without one, other than the Braves games! |
If I remember correctly, you are coming next weekend? If so, two events will be taking place -
The Dogwood Festival will be at Piedmont Park - http://www.dogwood.org/ And, there will also be a Midtown Tour of Homes that weekend (and you will be in the midst of Midtown) - http://www.midtowntourofhomes.com/ I'm not sure that hubby will want to do a tour of homes, but I'm really looking forward to it. The Margaret Mitchell House is one of the points of interest on the tour - as is my church, just a couple of blocks from your hotel. I think I'm going to be working there on Saturday, so walk two blocks and say "hi" :-) I'm hoping I'll get the early shift so I can tour the homes the rest of the afternoon. You may want to see how much a cab would be out to Stone Mtn. Park. I agree with no car - especially for next weekend in Midtown! |
You're directly across Peachtree from the Fabulous Fox Theater.... I'd check to see if anything is going on the weekend you're in town.
If it is the weekend of April 15, and if you're a Ray Romano fan, you can see his show with Brad Garrett as guest. Go to the following to see the schedules at the Fox: http://www.foxtheatre.org/cgi-bin/ca...g_calendar.cgi Keith |
On Saturday mornings you can take a tour of the Fox at 10 or 11. It's an amazing theatre.
Here are all of their walking tours - http://www.preserveatlanta.com/walkingtours.htm |
Call the Four Seasons and see if the Chocolate Bar is still open on Saturday nights. $20/pp for all you can eat chocolate buffet from 9-midnight. Great for an anniversary trip following your dinner at Mitra or Baronda! Also, if you're looking for an indoor activity to replace the Cyclorama (Ditto on the boring comment), you can try Fernbank or The High Museum.

Thank you everyone for all of the great advice! We do plan on going to the Dogwood Festival and Piedmont Park on Saturday. The zoo is a possibility but I think we'll skip the Cyclorama. The home tour sounds interesting. We did check the Fox Theater and there isn't anything we're interested in while we're there.
Thank you also for the Marta directions, both from the airport and to the game. That certainly sounds doable. Thanks again! We're looking forward to this weekend! |
