Las Vegas: Wynn or Bellagio?

Am going with DH to Vegas for a celebratory week and want to do it right -- looking for luxury and sophistication. worried that Bellagio might be too worn, but worried Wynn location might be too far from the action. opinions on which is the better way to go? many thanks!

Bellagio has a better location and it still has a five-star rating from AAA. Good hotels don't let anything become worn or tired.

Four Seasons at Mandalay Bay is by far the most luxurious and tranquil in Las Vegas. Private elevator, no casino on the floors, yet very easy to have fun at Mandalay Bay, casino, pools, etc.

If it were my trip, I would also take a look at the Mandarin Oriental. Their properties are usually excellent.

Four Seasons also has by far the worst location of the 3, in my opinion. Can't go wrong with Wynn or Bellagio and Wynn is close enough if you're a decent walker. If one of them is $50 less than the other, grab it, use the $350 on something fun.

I've never stayed at the Mandarin Oriental, but it has a great location next to Bellagio and it is rated #2 on TripAdvisor (for what that's worth). Four Seasons is #1 there.

When we stayed a week, we split the stay between Paris and Wynn and planned shows, dining, etc., accordingly, and really enjoyed that. Places are much farther apart and travel time between is far greater than you would presume by looking at a map. So, it worked out very well for us to "cluster".

I have stayed at both and think that Bellagio is sill the better choice.

thanks everyone - I originally had thought of the 4 seasons but i don't like the location, and it seems to me to be a little to un-vegasy for my taste. Same issue with Mandarin Oriental - seems great but not very Vegasy and I want VEGAS!

a question for happytrails and mike66 and others with Bellagio experience, any opinion on Salone Suites Bellagio suites?

happytrailstoyou Jan 23rd, 2012 12:39 PM

I suggest Bellagio, but I can't advise about the Salone Suites. You can be confident that they are as advertise.

For me, location of hotel and dining within or nearby are more important than the room, where we spend little time.

Bellagio.

Wliwl - any opinion on type of suite at bellagio?

The Wynn is absolutely gorgeous and very luxe and if I were going to Vegas I would choose it because the interiors, shows, pool, and restaurants there impressed me very much during the visit when we went there (to be fair, that was a few years ago though, when it was newer). That being said, Bellagio is also very nice just theme-ier, which is not my preference so I didn't like it as much. Also the casual restaurants at Wynn were lovelier and more like a real restaurant, whereas in Bellagio they have that sort of cafeteria-vibe (big dining rooms, etc.). I can't speak for the more formal restaurants or the buffets because we didn't they them. That being said, Bellagio has the most luxe shopping on the strip and it is in the middle of everything so there's a definite plus. I haven't walked to Wynn because when we went there (for dinner and a show), we took a taxi. I would say also if you're into cheap gambling it might be smarter to be in the middle of town so you have a bigger selection of tables. If I recall correctly it is expensive to gamble at the Wynn, although I am not much of a gambler so I may be totally off with this suggestion.

Oh, if you are looking for something with the feel of the Wynn and the location of Bellagio, Aria would be a great compromise.

We love Bellagio - but now will stay at the Wynn if we can get similiary priced rooms, and try to get a strip/mountain view room higher up. Both are great - and in any event - don't miss the great fountains at the Bellagio, and the Arboretum and the largest choclate waterfall in the world - at the Patissere just behind the Arboretum. :)

And we love to play the nickel slots (or video poker) at the Wynn and order the complimentary champagne which is very decent.

Bellagio has just completed a mega refurb on rooms in main tower, fantastic. So why not stay in both, we do that when we can't decide, three days in one, four in the other. Sorted.

Not a bad idea to split the week- will see if DH is down with that plan! Thanks all, I can't wait for this trip!!
