Las Vegas with Teens?

I'm wondering if it is worth it to take two teenage boys to Las Vegas. Logistics of an upcoming trip make it a convenient add-on but it is not the kind of trip we normally take as a family. Aside from Hoover Dam, what else can we do to enhance the trip and make it of more substantive other than hotels, restaurants, shows.....? DH and I are not gamblers. I wouldn't mind a day lying by the pool, but other than that....??? Thanks for your ideas and suggestions!

Absolutely. There is loads to do for non-gamblers such as you and me.

Red Rock Canyon
Dancing Waters at Bellagio
Pirates of the Caribbean at TI
And much more.

The interiors of many hotels are fascination: The Venetian and Caesars, for instance.

There are also cheap, fun afternoon shows such as Mac King.

Enjoy.

DaveEdwards - you registered this afternoon and have so far posted to 14 different threads - all w/ the same link??

Honestly - I think there is something weird going on here with all these "taking kids to Las Vegas" threads...

Like they are all fake.

I just think David has dredged up every LV thread he can find to post his links, so it just looks like a lot of new threads.

I wouldn't drag teens to Las Vegas unless you have no other choice. There are too many places they can't go (any casino, some of the shows) and the tacky atmosphere on the street (constantly being handed cards offering nude shows and "escort" services outweighs any interest in seeing large fountains - or fake copies of the Eiffel Tower or NYC.

Let them wait until they're 21 - and they can go do whatever they want.

Vegas always makes me unvomfortable and we have taken our child there a couple of times. That said, it is the real world, and lots of things make me uncomfortable in the world. Yes, there is plenty to do there for 3 days or so. Yes, there is plenty of stuff that is an eye opener. Duval Street in Keys, Bourban Street in New Orleans. All of these places can be an eye opener.

Here are my suggestions for some good family ides.

Red Rock Canyon (almost free)
Stratosphere rides
Grand Canyon flyout
Ethel M Chocolate Factory (free)
Hoover Dam (almost free)
just seeing Venetian, Belagio, Volcano erupt.

The forum shops are really cool
Some of the Cirque shows would be good. "O", KA, Mystere

possibly the Wind Machine that is
supposed to feel like you are parachuting.

Dave Edwards, you've posted the same lame ad 15 times so far. Give it a break. Please read the rules about no advertising here!

For those wondering what I was ranting about above, yesterday someone named Dave Edwards started bringing up all the Las Vegas posts and posting his websites on them as the perfect place to get information. I see the editors removed his ads, but left my "complaint".

Kudos Neo, for getting rid of the bum.

<quote>Let them wait until they're 21 - and they can go do whatever they want.</quote>

A better idea is to instill an ethic of moral and social responsibility and propriety in them that precludes making such decisions. (Namely, decadent and frivolous gambling and cavorting)
