Las Vegas with an infant

I just found out that one of my good friends is getting married in Vegas in February 2008 and wants me and hubby to be there. At that time I will have a 5 month old baby. Since I will be nursing (sorry if TMI)I will need to take the baby along. I realize this isn't ideal and will be leaving my 2 1/2 year old with Grandma and Grandpa. My husband and I would like to make a mini-vacation of it, but are wondering if there is much that we will be able to do with an infant. Would we be better off just flying down for the day of the wedding and then returning home?

I don't see how it would affect your vacation much if you use a stroller. I'm not sure what exactly you are asking. It's not a problem to stroll from hotel to hotel, to go to a show, or to go to a restaurant with a baby. Probably no nightclubs for you though :)

I wouldn't plan to go to a show with a 5 year old baby.

What about everyone going - grandparents, 2 1/2 year old, baby. You probably don't want to haul baby to wedding and would have no other option without this type of child care. Spend a long weekend, passing off kids to grandparents as much or as little as everyone wants or will tolerate.

While LV is not the first place I would think of for a family trip, I'll give you a pass because of the circumstances.

Know this will double the cost - hope someone wins the lottery before then.

5 years old....5 months old... what's the difference?

Well with a 5 month old you can't go through the casinos and I doubt they would let a baby into one of the shows (way too much chance of disruptions). (I'm assuming it's like Broadway theaters that don;t allow kids under 5 - even if you're willing to pay for the seat.

But obviously you don't want to leave a 5 month old with a strange babysitter.

I agree with the idea of bringing the grandparents and other child - and adults taking turns doing things and watching the kids.

Otherwise - make the trip as short as possible - since there's really so few places the baby will be welcome/happy.

I personally don't see how you can make this an enjoyable mini-vacation unless the grandparents go too.

Otherwise you will not be able to enter a casino, attend a show, go into a lounge . . . .

W/ the grandparents and your 2 1/2 yo along - you could do adult things and family things and switch off watching the kids.

So if it were me - the whole family would come or I'd just make it a quick overnighter. You can pump milk and the grandparents can feed the baby if just the two of you go.
