Las Vegas with 8 year old

Going to Las VEgas in August with 8yr. old.
Need opinions on Circus Circus rooms, etc. or should we stay elsewhere (Treasure Island, Flamingo Hilton, Tropicana).

Taken from www.cheapovegas.com (BTW, maybe you should check the site, they have very good and right-on-the-spot reviews)

"Room Quality The tower rooms are pretty nice, especially in the newest tower, almost up to the standard set by other mid-level casinos on the Strip. They have muted colors, dark woods, attractive furniture and bedspreads. Slightly better than a Holiday Inn room, actually. However, in the back, they have the "manor" rooms, which are old and motel-style, and what you'll likely get if you book their lowest room rate. The decor in these rooms is horrifying cotton candy and circus colors, and sleeping in them may cause you to wake in the middle of the night, with a cold sweat trickling off your brow."

In any case, Circus Circus is NOT at a convenient location, too far away from everything.

I guess that you'd be better off at Treasure Island.

I'd go for Treasure Island or Mirage. The Mirage has a great pool - something most kids love!

Circus Circus is to be avoided IMO.
That end of the strip is dying quickly. It is more dangerous at night. Security for kids concerns me (was last there 3 months ago on a weekend).
You and your child will both have a more enjoyable time if you stay farther south.
Flamingo is a good value with nice pools.
Treasure island has the best casino of the four.

I'm also planning a trip to Vegas with a five year old. I hear there are many free things to do which will greatly entertain kids. Examples are the pirate show, fountain shows etc. Let me know if you discover anything great!
Thanks

Check out this site from another board that discusses things to do in Vegas:

http://www.mycoupons.com/boards/showflat.pl?Cat=&Board=travel&Number=16604 &page=1&view=collapsed&sb=5

You 8 year old may live Circus Circus, but there is a good chance you will not (it's not really that centrally located to the "main" part of the strip). I would sooner stay at the Treasure Island/Flamingo area of the strip which would make you more centrally located. Your 8 year old will be still be impressed with all the lights, the volcano at the Mirage, Pirate show, etc. I WOULD make a stop for a few hours at Circus Circus, as well as Excalibur, which you 8 year old will enjoy.
