Las Vegas with 13 year old must sees

There seems to be so much to do in Vegas, we are there for 4 nights at MGM, want to make sure we see everything for a great family fun vacation without have to spend all day deciding what to do because it looks like there is tons of stuff to do. Also looking for coupons and discounts. Would appreciate any advice.

I'll be interested in seeing responses to this because with all the attempt to make Vegas a family-oriented vacation place, it still is a playground for adults. I wouldn't want to take a teen there - having said this, we took my daughter there for her 21st birthday, and she loved it!
I happen to enjoy most of the "kid stuff" , such as the theme parks, etc., and I guess a 13 year old might like to stay at the pool. I know most of the casinos have arcades where teens can spend their money. You know, I probably should just stay out of this discussion and let others who have taken their children there do the talking. Pardon my two cents' worth...

Having been to Vegas many times I can tell you that it is still mainly for adults, but some of the things I would recommend are the obvious but also free things to do.Treasure Island Pirate Battle occurs everynight about every 90 minutes.(Go early or you will be to far back to see anything). The Atlantis show @ Caesars Forum Shops where the statues come to life, every half hour or so. A good dinner show for kids would be the King Arthurs
Tournament @ Excaliber. Tickets run about 29.95.You eat with your hands and get to scream and yell alot as it's very interactive with the crowd. It was actually great fun. Lunch @ Planet Hollywood is a must if your 13 year old likes movies and moviestars at all.Prepare to wait for a table though. MGM theme park was ok but only if you like to go on rides along with your child. Also great roller coaster @ New York New York. At Mirage are dolphin pools and a small big cats enclosure. This is about 10.00. The cats were lazy and never got up when we were there, you could see them but thats about it. The dolpins were good but they dont do a show you just see them in the water and hope they do some tricks.
I hope this helps a little. Have a great time....

Take your thirteen your old to the Star Trek ride at Las Vegas Hilton. Even if you are not a Trek fan the ride is a blast. Also there is a simulator ride in the new section of the Forum Shops at Ceasars Palace called Ride To Atlantis-loads of fun. Across from Monte Carlo is the Coca-Cola display & a huge arcade & M&M store. Free volcano erupting at The Mirage at night and The Freemont light show downtown. Not to many things for kids but try these besides above suggestions. Have fun.

Lindsay,

Vegas has been gearing towards catering to families now for the past five years. While there are things for kids to do, IT IS STILL AN ADULT PLAYGROUND. I have a twelveyearold and would not bring him to Vegas. That's Mommy's time!

Anyway, as limited as they are, here are suggestions for your thirteenyearold:

1. Circus Circus - as nerve-racking it is for adults, kids love it. It has an arcade and lots of kid stuff.

2. MGM - amusement park with great rides.

3. New York New York - Try its roller coaster.

4. Stratosphere - It's double duty roller coaster is great.

5. Excalibur - They too have an arcade chock full of video games.

Hope this helps and have a great time!

There are a couple of other threads on this board dealing with this same topic. You should check them out (just scroll down a LONG ways). However, to recap some:

*Pirate Show in front of Treasure Island.
(* TI also has a pretty good midway/arcade.)
*Star Trek Experience at LVHilton. (A little pricey, but a must for ST fans.)
*Volcano eruption, white tigers, dolphins at Mirage.
*Midway games on bottom floor of Excalibur.
*Midway games at MGM.
*Virtual reality arcade at Luxor.
*Motion simulator rides and King Tut Museum at Luxor.
*Planet Hollywood, Hard Rock Cafe, All-Star Sports, or Country Star Cafe depending on your preference.
*Arcade at New York, New York (voted the best by Las Vegas Journal-Review).
*Roller coaster at New York, New York (I THINK it's stopped falling apart).

I would not recommend the Stratosphere, as they are hurting financially and I don't trust the place.

Unfortunately, the theme park at MGM is closing on September 8th, to reopen Easter weekend, April 11th, 1999. That's assuming, of course, it ever opens again!

One final note: Personally, I would not recommend taking a 13 year-old to Las Vegas. It is a town for adults and I think it's not a good atmosphere for children. If you do take your kids, WATCH OVER THEM very carefully. I think we all remember what happened to that unattended 7 year-old last year.
