Las Vegas, Which Hotel? I've narrowed it down to six...

Hi, My husband and I are going to Vegas with another couple 7/4-7/7. I will be 6 months pregnant and am looking for a nice hotel in a good location. My husband enjoys gambling and I enjoy shopping and entertainment. The following hotels are our options?
New York, New York
Monte Carlo
MGM Grand
Treasure Island
Mirage
Mandalay Bay

Thanks for any suggestions.

The only thing I can advise is to be as centrally located as possible for the least amount of walking. That eliminates Mandalay Bay, although you may prefer that for its pools. Treasure Island is not particularly "central," either, but it is between Ceasars and the Fashion Show Mall for tons of indoor AC shopping!

You wouldn't consider Bellagio, would you? Check their website, as they have reduced rates in July. Mandalay Bay and MGM are at the far end of the strip unless you have no problems with taxis. The shopping mall is beside Treasure Island. The rooms in the Mirage are alright..I find the property itself quite congested. You may want to check out lvol.com for people's opinions as well.

We've stayed at New York New York and the rooms were nice. But it is at the south end of the strip. I would try to be more central so you could enjoy your shopping without serious walking. My husband once got a great deal on a room at Bally's which I thought would be awful. However, it was a huge beautiful room on a quiet empty floor because we are non-smokers! Bally's is connected to Paris and accross from Bellagio. The location of that area is perfect.

July and August have some of the best rates for 4-5* Casino/Resorts and I would do either Bellagio or the Wynn..great shopping at each and the rooms are stunning with top of the line beds and linens..your choices are good but new is so key in Vegas..
Just my two cents..have a great time!

I would go for the Mirage or Treasure Island. As noted TI is next to the Fashion Show Mall, and the Mirage is next to the Caesar's Forum mall. They're both centrally located, so you have better access to other casinos than the other choices, and thus increase your options for entertainment.

For gambling, TI tends to be mostly slots - not many table games anymore, so depending on where your husband's gambling interests lie, he may prefer the Mirage over the TI or vice versa. The Mirage has a good mix of slots and table games.

I vote Bellagio or Paris. Alladin is next to Paris if you want more budget. All these are central to Caesars indoor shopping, lots of gambling, etc. We stayed at Paris last year and it was very nice. I loved the location and the pool was great too.

Monte Carlo is a great location.

The Venitian...I know it was not on your list - but I love that hotel!

To limit your walking, I'd also vote for TI. It's crazy hot in July! A few years ago, my friend was walking on the strip and his shoes/sandals fell apart while he was walking. He was soooo embarrassed but was near Caesar's Forum, so he could by himself a new set of footwear. But we were amazed that it was that hot!

I love Monte Carlo - I usually stay there. BUT - while it technically is a good location, it doesn't really "attach" to anyplace else - no monorail (the tram to Bellagio is gone, at least it was gone earlier this year); not even any walkways to the other hotels. So, it's not really as easy as it should be to get anyplace from there.

For the original poster's criteria, I'd agree with Treasure Island or Mirage.

Since you will be six months pregnant, I highly recommend the Mirage for it's location. You are very centrally located there, especially since you want to go shopping. From the Mirage, you can explore the Forum Shops of Caesar's Palace, The Canal Shoppes at the Venetian and the Fashion Show Mall. It will be brutally hot -- over 100 degrees every day. You will want to eliminate as much walking as possible. I've been to Vegas many, many times. Of your options, the Mirage is your best bet for it's more central location.

Treasure Island is also a good choice. Treasure Island is actually closer to the Venetian and the Fashion Show Mall. Mirage is closer to Caesar's. Mirage is a little more upscale, but Treasure Island is very nice, as well.

Hi--just my 2 cents....but you want to make sure that you have a place where you can sit and put your feet up for regular breaks. For that reason, unless you are getting a suite in the rooms that you mention, I agree w/dawn about the Venetian. Otherwise, be sure to tell the check-in clerk, wherever you do stay, that you need a room w/a chair that has an ottoman. With all the LV walking *and* the heat, you will be prone to your ankles swelling up unless you elevate your legs daily. Sorry, don't mean this to sound like medical advice, but rather just the voice of experience.... :)

Of the ones you have chosen (w/the location requirement) I would choose the Monte Carlo. W/out, Mandalay Bay. NYNY's casino is way crowded & the layout is a jumble. MGM is just TOO big, TI TOO old. Mirage would be runner up otherwise.

mikesmom Apr 30th, 2007 07:42 AM

I really think that if you want to be near shopping you should choose a hotel that is convenient to good shopping. While the Monte Carlo is a very nice hotel, it really isn't convenient to good shopping, especially if one is six months pregnant.

marcekr, there are discount deals to all of the hotels you mentioned at Broadwaybox.com/lasvegas . Out of that list, I'd go with the Mirage.

Check the Monorail and Trams in relation to the hotels. http://www.vegas.com/transportation/monorails.html

Thanks for everyones help. The reason I narrowed it down to these hotels is because they all cost about the same with the vacation package I am getting. Would it be a good idea to rent a car? I have seen pics of the Mandaylay Bay and it looks beautiful. If we don't rent a car we will prpbably stay at the Mirage, because of location. Maybe?

horatio May 1st, 2007 05:08 PM

Don't bother with a car..cabs are cheap and plentiful..

jallard May 1st, 2007 05:16 PM

Nothing beats the Wynn - hands down the best.
Of your other choices, we only stayed at one, Mandalay Bay and I wasn't crazy about it. I have heard the pool at NY, NY is not very good. However, Mirage is supposed to have a nice pool and I like the decor there.
