Las Vegas- Where did you stay?

My husband and I are planning a trip to LV the end of August. I'd like to hear pros/cons of hotels you stayed at. We want to stay on the strip, with a nice pool, health club (are there any hotels with fitness classs?), and spa. Has anyone stayed at Rio or NY NY? Thank You.

gluvscats,

Rio is not on the strip. NYNY gets very luke warm reviews on this board.

Your best bet is to go to cheapovegas.com. It humorously reviews just about every hotel in Vegas and provides links to each hotel's website. It also provides a detailed map of the locations for all of the hotels. This is where you start. Then, after you have narrowed it down, come back to the board for specific questions.

Las Vegas is a many times a day question on this board. If you were to check out the "search" feature at the top of the page, you would get more information than you would know what to do with. Also, at the end of August, be aware that it will be extemely HOT!!!!!!

Having just returned from Vegas, I highly recommend the Aladdin.

The Bellagio has a great pool, wonderful spa, and great center strip location. It is most generally considered the nicest hotel on the strip. I stayed there last June for 3 nights and have nothing but good things to say about it. Actually, they are offering a reduced rate right now that goes from May 21-Sept 10th for Mon-Thurs nights. Fountain view rooms are 139, suites 299. Call and ask for the rate using code C139email.

My last stay was at the Hilton Grand Vacations Club (as a hotel guest/not timeshare) which is located directly behind the Flamingo.

I liked it because it was quieter back there, it has it's own private pool as well as sharing with the Flamingo (all in the same area) and it has a full health club.

The rooms were quite nice (1br suite) and you also have access to the Flamingo (as far as charging to your room). It takes about 10 minutes to get from your room to the strip, which is common even in the on-strip hotels.

Oh, it's also not a casino hotel so it is not smoky.

blondie, did you get the hard sell on becoming a "member" of HGVC>?

We stayed at the Rio a couple of times a few years ago, it was not bad at all.
I would not go to NYNY.
We now stay at the Bellagio.
It has 5 nice pools, health club/spa for guests only and is on the strip and quite lovely.
Have fun whatever you decide on!

Unlimted budget - Four Seasons - Great Spa - Serenity in the middle of 24 hour playground.
Notch below - Bellagio or Venetian - Personally I prefer Venetian, since all the rooms are suites, beautifully furnished. Don't know about spa.
Very Good - Mandalay Bay, Paris, Alladin, MGM Grand, Ceasars + few more.
Average - Luxor(if only because it's showing it's age), NYNY, Treasure Island + few others that I can't remember the name.
Rio and Las Vegas Hilton - Good hotels, bad location if you like to do the strip during the day or evening.
Have a great trip!

I have stayed at the Flamingo which is in an excellent location - right in mid-strip across from the bellagio. Rooms are "OK" - nothing fancy. Check for deals at the more pricey hotels during the week especially. We stayed at the Venetian Monday through WEdnesday for over half less than the weekend prices. Golden Nuggget downtown is nice if you want to spend one night downtown.

Stayed in a mini-suite in the Luxor towers on two different visits. Like that it's separate from the pyramid & all that casino noise. The spa at the Luxor was a welcome respite - got a treatment and hung out while I waited for our room to become available(I arrived quite early). Not sure if they had fitness classes, but who needs classes when you can be walking a shopping mall?

Big thank you to BrendaM! I called the Bellagio today and booked a room for June and mentioned the c139email code and got a deluxe room for $139! Sweet!

Another question - should I rent a car at the airport or just get it at Bellagio?

gplimpton May 8th, 2003 11:24 AM

1) do you really need a car (that is, are you going out to Red Rocks or downtown a couple times, etc)?

2) if you get one, it's always cheaper to book well in advance thru a company outside the hotel. You can sample available rates quickly at places like travelocity.com and expedia.com. Priceline often has great rental rates, but often they're less competitive in LV in my experience.

Yes, planning to go to Red Rock, and Hoover Dam, and St George, Utah.

Will they deliver a car to the Bellagio - or will we need to go to airport to pick up?
