Las Vegas Trip Report March 2013
We stayed at the Bellagio from March 13-18, 2013. First time at this hotel and it was simply the best! Close to everything on the strip. We stayed in an Executive Suite that provided pick-up at the airport by limo, executive check-in and a two bedroom suite that overlooked the fountains. The suite was well appointed and very comfortable! I must say the concierge was absolutely fantastic and helped us with all of our requests.
We went to see Cirque's "O" - simply amazing! Although tickets are very difficult to get, the concierge managed to get us excellent seats! If you can only see one show in Vegas, I would highly recommend this one! On our last day at the Bellagio, we decided to rent a cabana for the day. Great way to share the pool area with friends! Our waiter for the day was very attentive, and the cabana had everything we needed to relax! We also rented a car for two days. Day one we did Lake Mead and the Hoover Dam. Easy drive as long as you don't hit too much traffic. Boulder City was an unexpected delight and lunch at the historic district didn't disappoint. Day two we went to Red Rock Canyon, again a short drive outside of the city. This is a must - geological miracle! Our rental agency suggested we also check out Searchlight. While not much there, we were glad we visited just for the drive and lunch at the local Casino. We had an evening meal at Trevi in Ceasars Palace. It was good, nothing to rave about, but the service was excellent. We were a party of 15 and I was surprised when they told us we were able to have separate checks. One of the best meals was at the Bellagio's Fix. We wanted to dine at their steakhouse, but forgot to make reservations. Fix provided the "fix" we wanted - a melt in your mouth bone in filet. For three of us, the meal was over $400, including pre-dinner drinks and a bottle of wine. |
Thanks for the report - we're flying to Vegas from Australia soon - I'd love to hear more about Searchlight and any specific hikes you can recommend in Red Rock Canyon.

Great trip report and thanks for filing it. Very good advice IMO.
Love the Bellagio fountains and pool. Did you see the biggest chocolate fountain in the world at the Patissere? :) |
Did someone say chocolate?
|
Well that sounds like just a really great getaway. Thanks for writing up the report.

Tanyalynn, thanks for the report. Bellagio is still the class of the hotels. I luv getting a car in Vegas. The outlying casinos are a better bang for the buck.
melnq8, what days are you in vegas? |
@Melnq8
Icebox Canyon is a nice and challenging hike. It is a good hike for a hot day because of the shade. Mark |
Sounds like you had a fine trip. Searchlight is one of those places that you go through on the way to/from Laughlin, for those who want Vegas light on the river. Supposedly Carol Lombard was born there and she and Clark Gable honeymooned in Oatman, the old gold mining town not far from Laughlin.

In Vegas right this minute ziggypop. Hiked in Red ROck Canyon this morning, looking into Mt Charleston hikes for tomorrow.
Will Google Icebox Canyon Mark, thanks. Could have really used some shade today. I'd forgotten what a complete zoo Vegas is. |
