Las Vegas Top Ten
 

Hi. A few of us are going to Vegas in a couple of weeks. None of us have been there before, so we are looking for ideas on things that we have to do and places to eat and have drinks at. We are between the ages of 25-32. We're going for a three day weekend. None of us are really into gambeling. We are going to just hang out and to get out of town. If anyone has any ideas on things that are a must please share. Thank you.

I don't if any of these are a "must", but here are a couple recommendations from my recent trip (where we spent $0 on gambling if you can believe it):
- Mon Ami Gabi restaurant at the Paris was wonderful. Good food, and we waited for a table outside and were able to watch the Bellagio fountains while we had dinner (the view is somewhat blocked by traffic/trees, fyi)
- tour the Wynn hotel. was our favorite of the bunch with several cafes with outdoor seating by the waterfalls

I think others are probably obvious - seeing a Cirque du Soleil show, etc. etc.

Wander the Hotels on the strip.
Go into the forum shops and see the free animatronic shows.
Catch at least one show.
Check out the dueling Piano bar at NYNY.
Fountains at Bellagio.
Sign up for players cards everywhere even if you don't play.
Go up the Eiffel tower at night.
See the volcano at Mirage at night.
Learn a little about gambling and try it.
Have a drink at night at the top of the Rio.
Go to a strip club.
Stay up really late and do silly stuff that you don't do at home. Leave it in Vegas.

Skip Freemont street on your first 3 day visit.

There are quite a few must-see things for first-timers. Just to name a few....

- See the fountain show at the Bellagio.
- Check out all the "unique" and fancy hotels such as the Bellagio, Paris, Venetian, NYNY, Luxor, etc.
- Definitely go see a show. Any show. If you can get tickets, go see one of the Cirque shows. There are lots of less expensive shows that are pretty good too, such as "V" at the Venetian.
- Eat at a good buffet!

I agree with all the above. Our first visit we visited a lot of casinos. Our favorite is Caesars! People watching at Petrossian in the Bellagio is fun, so is the Fontana Bar for drinks and fountains. Another fun thing to do is get a good book on vegas before you go, like Fodors vegas and the unofficial guide to Vegas. Bring it with you too:)

One thing I have a hard time doing in LV is staying up late..those 3 hours really get me. I feel like such an old fart! We wake up at 4:30 (because it's really 7:30) and by 10:30 we are zombies. How do you guys say up so late. I really want to bad, but I can't

Thank you all for your ideas. I love to get other peoples opinions when traveling. I was also wondering two other things(sorry). Has anyone ever stayed at Paris, we have reservations there, but I want to make sure it's a good place to stay or should we change hotels. Also, I know it's hard to say because eveyone is different, but what would be a good amount for spending money. I heard Vegas is very expensive, I want to make sure I bring enough, but I don't want to bring to much. I feel I have no willpower and will shop away left over vacation money.It happens every vacation. I usually bring 100$ for each day there and alittle extra for shopping. will this be enough?

Just back from Vegas less than 24 hours ago...stayed at the Wynn. I enjoy shopping, eating and poolside relaxing.
Restaurants: Mon Ami Gabi. This will be very convenient for you since it is at the Paris. Another restaurant I liked was Mesa Grill for Sunday brunch. I am not a buffet person. At the Bellagio, there's a little place called Palio's. I get the fruit and granola yogurt with a brioche for breakfast or a light evening meal. I only eat one big meal a day, usually at lunch. Also, the Fontana Bar at Bellagio was a lot of fun. I also hear the nightclubs at the Wynn are fun, but I have not experienced them. Shopping is great--all price ranges.

Yes, Vegas can be very expensive, but it can also be done very cheap, depending on a number of factors. I'm assuming we're just talking about spending money and not including gambling money. As far as shopping, there are TONS of high-end stores that people seem to flock to, but there's also bargains at the 2 outlets in Vegas. As far as food, there are also TONS of expensive restaurants, as well as more reasonable ones. Back in the day, you used to be able to eat for as little as $1.99! A lot of hotels still have deals like this, but maybe not quite as cheap! The same goes for buffets. Some are expensive and some are fairly cheap. So it all depends on where you go eat. As far as shows, you can forget about any of the "big" shows being cheap. Expect to pay at least $70+. There are some "smaller" shows that are really good too.

jb1923 - Paris is a great place to stay. The location can't be beat - it's right in the center of everything. When you check in see if they'll upgrade you to a fountain (Bellagio) view room. The pool at Paris isn't anything special, but you didn't list that as a priority so it's probably ok. They have good restaurants in Paris - I love the creperie and in the cafe we substitute chocolate croissants for toast with breakfast - yummy! Bally's is connected to Paris by a walkway with shops - Bally's has good restaurants too. Also - Bally's has a GREAT show - Society of Seven - they are known as Hawaii's "premiere show group" and they are for sure. They perform Wed/Thurs/Sat/Sun at 3 in the afternoon and at 8 pm on Fridays. Tickets are about $46 pp.

Definetely have a drink on the patio of Fontana's Bar in Bellagio (as previously mentioned) - watch the Fountains and relax. Also fun is Jimmy Buffet's Margaritaville in the Flamingo Hilton. Aladdin's Desert Passage has some great restaurants & shops too.

Oh yes!....Society of Seven is GREAT! And you can't beat the price too!!
