Las Vegas to the Grand Canyon
Has anyone done this day trip? Was it worth it? How were the logistics? Thank you.

I've never done Las Vegas to the South Rim as a day trip. It's 560 miles round trip. You are looking at about 10 hours of just driving time to the South Rim. The North Rim is closer in miles but not much time will be saved because the roads are slower and windy to the N. Rim.
You are much better off spending at least one night at the Grand Canyon. Utahtea |
I did this trip once absolutely fab. Great journey. Stopped at Hoover Dam on the way there. Also took the Grand Canyon train and stayed overnight at the Grand Canyon Hotel. I agree a day trip is too short a time. Even a two day trip was cutting it fine.

If you want a day trip, there are helicopter tours. I haven't done it, and don't know cost, but it's an option.

There are bus trips to the Canyon from LV. However, they are not to the South rim, which is the "real view" Canyon. We've rented a car in LV (at the airport) and driven to the South rim. Great trip, but try & spend at least one night in the canyon. Sandy in Oregon

Thank you for your replys.....I should have specified I was asking about the helicopter trip.

That was an important LITTLE detail! Nope, haven't done that.

Hi
I'm also going Las Vegas and would like to see the Grand Canyon. We will be there in Early April. A few years ago we went to Hoover Dam and took the Lake Mead cruise.. Does anyone have any suggestions for an itenerary. My husband likes freedom to explore, but is open to a tour. The helicopter tours are still available. I also was interested in the Grand Canyon overnight tour or the Hummer Adventures. Does anyone have any suggestions? |
tforg11 If your DH likes his freedom, then I suggest renting a car and going on your own. Spend at least one night at the Grand Canyon because it's a 10 hour round trip by car and will eat up your whole day if you don't. Spending the night also will allow you to be at the canyon for sunrise and sunset. Utahtea |
