Las Vegas to San Diego
 

About how far is it from Las Vegas to San Diego? Can this trip be done in 2 days? What is there to see and do in San Diego? How far is it from San Diego to Tijuana? <BR>Thanks for your help

Las Vegas to San Diego is about 330 miles and easy 6 hour driving time. If the traffic is light 5 hours is not a problem. Tijuana is about 16 miles from the center of San Diego.

I am a native San Diegan. Above posting is right on. The drive from Las Vegas to San Diego is for the most part very boring so you want to get to San Diego as quickly as possible. Do NOT make the drive on Sunday afternoon/evening. The traffic is horrendous. <BR> <BR>There are many attractions and things to do and see in San Diego. First, there are the standard tourist attractions, namely, the San Diego zoo, Sea World, and the Wild Animal Park in Escondido. One of my favorite things to do is take the ferry from downtown San Diego to Coronado Island and then walk to the Hotel Del Coronado which is very interesting. The ferry leaves from the foot of Broadway next to the pier. The ferry trip takes about 15 minutes or so and costs about $2.00 each way. The walk from the ferry terminal to the Hotel Del Coronado is about 1 mile. Coronado is very nice and quite interesting. The Hotel Del Coronado is a world famous landmark. If you are in the mood for some great Mexican food, there is a great Mexican restaurant, Miguel's Cocina, across the street from the Hotel Del Coronado. Good food at reasonable prices. Better than what you will find in Tijuana unless you know your way around. <BR> <BR>Downtown San Diego is a good place to walk around. You can visit Horton Plaza, Seaport Village and the Gaslamp district. The Gaslamp area has 80+ restaurants and some very good ones. I heartily recommend the Dakota Grill on the corner of 5th and E. Drive along the waterfront to Harbor Island, Shelter Island and out to Cabrillo park on Point Loma. Drive up the coast to La Jolla and Del Mar. Cut over from Del Mar through Rancho Santa Fe and then back to San Diego on I-15. If you have time you can drive up into the mountains to Julian which is famous for it's apples. It is about a 1.5 hour drive to Julian and is quite scenic. A visit to Old Town is very nice especially on the weekends when there is free entertainment ( Flamenco dancing, music, etc. ). You can visit Balboa Park ( zoo is in the park ) and visit the many museums. There are many other things to do but this will keep you busy for awhile.

I visited San Diego for the first time last December and agree with everything Sam has to say. If you visit this town and can't find anything better to do than visit Tijuana, you're not looking in the right places. You CAN ride a tram from downtown SD to almost the border, then walk across (do NOT, repeat, *DO NOT* drive your car into Mexico just to visit Tijuana); but there won't be much reason to do so other than to say you've "been to" Mexico.

I'm a second-generation San Diegan and I agree with everything that the other two have said. But I'll be blunt -- skip Tijuana. Instead, try Old Town San Diego. <BR> <BR>
