Las Vegas Theatre
We have tickets to "O" and figure we can make time for two other shows. Are there 2 that we should not miss? I was thinking Le Femme and/or Wayne Newton, my wife was thinking Blue Man. Thanks

Danny Gans is best for people with little or no theatre experience. No offense, but he's for more mainstream tastes -- his show is about singing, cliches and well-done but worn-out impersonations. If my grandparents were going to Vegas, I'd tell them to see it. It's very "safe." And he's talented, don't get me wrong.
If you were a big "Cats" fan, or couldn't wait to see the tour show of "Phantom of the Opera," then Danny is probably for you. Don't take offense -- that's probably most of the U.S. population.

I just saw Mystere a couple of weeks ago and it was great. We sat beside a couple that had seen O and said it was very different from Mystere. They said both were great shows. Mystere was funny and amazing. O was my first choice but we couldn't get tickets. Have fun. I loved Vegas except the smoke really messed up my sinus while I was there.

Ouch, Tansy! For the record, I personally feel that all entertainment in Las Vegas is a little cheezy and "mainstream", but you are in Vegas--what do you expect? If you want "theater", go to NYC or London. If you want fun and light-hearted entertainment, Vegas, Baby! I think Danny Gans is just as entertaining as anything else in Vegas!

I'd hardly call Mystere or O (two of the most popular Vegas shows) "cheesy." Spectacular and flashy - maybe. But cheesy and mainstream? No.
Danny Gans - definitely cheesy. Definitely mainstream. Just watch the in house video of him in one of the MGM hotels and that's enough.
I mean, seriously, Tansy hit it on the head. My parents (who are in their 70s) would love Danny Gans. They would laugh at the easy impersonations of Michael Jackson (how hard is it to impersonate Michael Jackson - not hard), Jerry Lewis, and Sinatra. They would eat it up.
But it's all to wink-wink, tongue in cheak barf to me.
Len, here's a fun smattering of entertainment options: 1) Cirque du Soleil's "O" 2) "Mamma Mia" and then 3) "Purple Reign" at the Boardwalk (that is, if you like Prince)
-Darvy, the travel gal

travelisfun, I'm not trying to offend. But it is true that many more "sophisticated" travelers are heading to Vegas these days; they have higher standards when it comes to stage shows. Cirque will satisfy those standards, Danny Gans will not. I don't think anyone expects Broadway on the Strip . . . although I suppose Broadway itself is looking more and more like Vegas every day. I mean, "The Producers"? Come on. The music was TERRIBLE. It breaks my heart that it won so many Tonys.
But that's another posting! (And probably another board, eh?)
