Las Vegas Side Trips

As you will see from a post in 2005, I asked the same question then and received some very helpful answers. We did Red Rick Canyon and Valley of Fire and Zion...loved it all. We may well just return to these, but we will have a free Friday and the following Friday and Saturday. just wondered if there were any new ideas? Small, interesting towns with a good restaurant for lunch maybe? No shopping. We are willing to drive 2 1/2 hours each way if really worth it. What is Mt Charleton like?
Thank you.

Lake LAs Vegas is an interesting little development to drive out to for lunch and a stroll. Have you seen Hoover Dam? How about a drive out around Lake Mead? Floyd Lamb State Park is a nice little place to drive out to for a picnic lunch to get away from the glitz of LV.

Hoover Dam - on the way there is Mead Lake and also a cute little western town with a few sidewalk cafes and a coffee shop

Hualapai river raft ride or visit the skywalk (I think it was about 3 or 4 hours from Vegas).

I spent 2 months in Vegas last summer and one of my favorite and most memorable day trips was a canoe trip down the Colorado River through the Black Canyon starting at the base of the Hoover Dam.
