Las Vegas Shows
Heading for Las Vegas in August to celebrate my daughter's 21st birthday. Would she and my husband like Rita Rudner (I think she's playing at New York New York)or should I just plan on going by myself? Also, I want to see Mystere but my husband has no interest in it. All I've heard is wonderful things about this show. Has anyone NOT enjoyed it? Would a 21 year old enjoy it?
My husband and I saw Mystere and he wasn't too interested and he really liked it. I definetly think a 21 year old would enjoy it.
Another vote for Mystere. My husband initially only went along because I wanted to see it, but he absolutely loved it! It's a great choice for your daughter. Rita Rudner is funny, but audience was definitely older, and I don't think it would be a good choice for a 21 year old.

Don't miss Mystere. It is wonderful. Also "O" if you can get tickets. "O" because it can only be seen in Las Vegas.
While Rita Rudner is funny, she has been on TV and if you plan on only one show, a cirque show is the way to go. |
I saw Mystere when I was 19 or 20 and loved it!!!
Mystere is great and your husband will likely be surprised at how much he will enjoy it.
We saw Rita Rudner and enjoyed it, but her voice is so monotone I took a brief nap. Not sure your daughter would care for Rita. |
I think it's kinda risky to judge what someone would like strictly by their age. Some people like Cirque and some people hate it. Some are old, some are young.
I second the recommendation for O instead of Mystere. While Mystere is great, it is similar to other Cirque shows while O can only be seen in Vegas. My husband went to see it begrudgingly in Feb. and ended up loving it. Your daughter would like it as well.
If you have ever seen Rita Rudner you have seen Rita Rudner - nothing changes. I saw her in Atlantic city and then a few years later in Vegas - nothing changed same material all dated and directed at married life.
Mystere and "O". Anytime I bring new people to Vegas I do Mystere and they love it. We did it for a friends daughter and boyfried who are both 23 and they loved it. I would add Danny Gans to the list as a personal favorite. The man is the best voice impressionest ever. |
Personally, I wasn't that impressed with Mystere. But I saw "O" first and that may have a lot to do with it. I enjoyed Mystere, but it didn't get me on the edge of my seat the way that "O" did.
My husband wasn't thrilled about being dragged to "O", but when we were there, he not only enjoyed the show, but really got into seeing the mechanics of the stage moving and filling with water. It's a pretty awesome sight! Either show is fun and they have common elements, so if your daughter likes the Cirque type show, definitely take her. |
I was surprised to learn from Loki that some people hate Cirque, but I suppose it is true because I've had people tell me they hate Venice, Paris--even the Pacific Ocean!
We enjoyed O and Mystere, but didn't find Rita Rudner to be the least bit funny or entertaining.
Thanks for all the advice. Think we'll skip Rita Rudner. Is "O" that much better than Mystere to justify the price difference?
Just got back from Vegas last night. We saw "O" and were not impressed. My wife and I both thought Mystere was far superior. I didn't want Mystere to end - it was spellbinding. I couldn't wait for "O" to get over - I was checking my watch every five minutes.
Hmmm... I felt just the opposite. I thought O was much more intriguing. I felt that O had everything Mystere had, plus water and diving, which I greatly enjoyed.
Dauphine- you can't go wrong with either show. They're both awesome and well worth the money. I believe it's been stated many times before that O is a Las Vegas original, where Mystere is much more like a traditional Cirque traveling show that you could catch anywhere. O is around $15-30 more per ticket, so it's really your call. |
