Las Vegas Reunion
 

I have to plan a family reunion in Las Vegas for approximately 40 people. I need to find a reasonably priced hotel (we've stayed at the California before, but would like a change)and two restaurants for our dinners. Maybe a buffet and an Asian or Japanese restaurant. I've been to Vegas three times so I don't know the area well. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

Gold Coast is a good hotel in the same price range as The California, it is just off the strip and has strip shuttle. It is next door to THE RIO and THE PALMS and both have many restaurants to choose from, as well as shuttle buses that your group could also use to get back and forth to the strip.

We just had a family reunion in June for 40 people. We had it downtown also, at the Main Street Station. Most of us stayed there, afew over at the Golden Nugget. For downtown, they were gold hotel options. Our renuion brunch was at Main Street's buffet and it was good. Though if we have another one in LV, we will look into the Orleans and the Gold Coast mentioned by ClarkG.

I meant, good hotel options. The Golden Nugget was really nice, with a great new pool if your reunion is during pool seasons.

We have had big, fun family reunion luncheons in LV at both Makino (http://www.usmenuguide.com/makino.html) and Buffet@Asia (http://www.usmenuguide.com/buffetatasia.htm). Makino has been around longer and is a little more expensive, but both are good in my opinion. Of course, for that big a group you will need reservations.

Gold Coast sounds like a good idea since The Rio and The Palms are nearby. I've never been there.
I was going to try the Orleans on my planning trip. But if it's out in the middle of nowhere, I'll probably try the Gold Coast instead.
We have a Makino Chaya Restaurant in Hawaii and it sounds almost like the Makino Restaurant in Las Vegas. Think I'll look into that as one of our dinners. And that Buffet@Asia sounds really good.

Another place that would be a little different is the buffet at the Red Rock Casino (http://tinyurl.com/33g3l3), which many Hawaiians haven't had the chance to visit yet. The lunch buffet is $10.99 per person with a $1 off per person with a "casino card" (think you might even be able to sign up for this on line). It is one of the Station casinos (http://www.stationcasinos.com). It's a little ways from downtown, but a straight shot up Charleston toward Summerlin. Parking is easy.

I haven't tried lunch (been there a few times for dinner), but the price is in a "family reunion" range.

There is a Costco very close by too, so if people want to see what a Las Vegas Costco is like, they could visit before or after!

One more thing, Mavis. If you decide on Makino for your family reunion, there is one located in the Las Vegas Premium Outlets downtown (http://tinyurl.com/heyrg). Print up the passport coupon (http://tinyurl.com/2ahf3), and go to the information office when you get there for a discount book (I have seen visitors who don't have the passport coupon pay $5 for the discount book there). Then you can combine shopping with your reunion meal!

This passport coupon can also be used at other shopping centers (see the applicable centers on the coupon itself) -- same procedure of going to an information, or concierge, desk and picking up a discount book.

Thanks Leburta. I know a lot of the women in my family would enjoy the shopping part. As for the men, as long as there's a bar nearby they'll be happy too.
