Las Vegas Monorails
 

Hello!

Has any of you out there experienced any problems due to the closing of the monorails from MGM to Bally's? I am going to be in Vegas soon and I heard that now you walk or taxi it! Has there been some alternative transportation implemented for tourist?

The monorail construction is stll ongoing and isn't expected to finish until Jan 2004. Several of the dealers at the casions were very eager for it to open, and said it will be free.

You can always take the trolley or the CAT bus if you don't feel like walking. The trolley is $1.65 per person and stops at the main entrance of each hotel. The bus stops at several places on LV Blvd and is $2 a person.

For $20 per day, you can rent a car at the airport. Saves you all ground charges and pays for itself in convenience.

Across the street from MGM go to the Monte Carlo, you can monorail up to the Bellagio

No you cannot - the Bellagio-MonteCarlo monorail is closed down too.

Linda was asking about the MGM monorail, not the city-run monorail, which isn't scheduled to open for several months yet.
The MGM monorail was still closed last month.
As for the hassle of getting around, there were NO monorails (or pedestrian overpasses) only a few years ago, and people still got around fine. Rental cars are cheap, cabs are everywhere, and walking burns calories.

I just got back, we stayed at Bally's, eventually the monorail will run all the way to the airport...and i did say eventually...monorails are down til next year sometimes....i rode the bus...car is too much and some places want a parking fee....adds on...taxi is high.........trolley is good...trolley and bus take a little longer so start out earlier and walking does burn calories and takes a little while longer.

The MGM monorail is being incorporated into the city-run monorail, so it will no longer just run from Ballys to MGM.

I'mgenerally a walker, so no, no problems.. No special "alternative transportation" has been implemented (?)..With the exception of the Mandalay Bay-Excalibur tram, all LV trams are down. Alternatives? minimal budget: walk. low budget: bus/trolley (but depending on the time of day during heavy use plan on spending time on them) moderate budget: taxi (avoid the strip during heavy travel time - especially evenings); or rent a car. unlimited budget: limo w/driver. Advice: check out lasvegas.com. link to strip maps and check the distance from venue to venue. walk when you can; bus/trolly at off-peak times, and taxi only when necessary.

What place is LV wants a parking fee? Other than downtown locations (where one can get the ticket validated in the casino), I don't recall any strip property charging for parking.

The monorails are exhausting - you walk further to get to and from them than if you'd just walked directly to your destination! We either drive to Vegas or rent a car - there is never a problem parking and some of the nicest and most helpful folks in Vegas are the valets!

Well I went and now I am back! I did Vegas the ol' fashioned way and took the bus, taxis, and walked. My family and I had gotten used to the monorails and missed them but everyone was fine.
As usual there was a lot of traffic especially on the strip and the sun was scorching - but that's Vegas for you! And unfortunetly won nothing :( $$$ maybe next time.
