Las Vegas Luxor or Orleans Hotel Questions

We are planning a stay in Las Vegas December 19-23. Two adults and one seven-year-old.

The rates from the hotels' sites are great. Only a $40 difference between the two. Is Las Vegas typically less expensive at this time? Slow? Not that I'd mind.

Any opinions on which of these might be a better stay? Do we have to worry about hookers? (LOL!)

Thanks! I appreciate your advice.

Orleans is not on the Strip, but Luxor is. To me, it is better to stay ont he strip!

I agree w/ Christie. I've stayed at the Luxor (tower room) and enjoyed my stay. I usually prefer to be mid-strip (Paris, Caesers, etc) but you'll have a good time. I'm a little surprised w/ the rate (must be mid week) cause the week after Xmas is one of the busiest. Enjoy!

Orleans has a bowling alley and movie theatres. Also an expensive but excellent child-care funzone. The rooms are a bit larger than the Luxor, a good thing for 3 people. Get a strip-view room.

A 7-year old will enjoy the pyramid shape of the Luxor, and will be close to great arcades at the Excalibur and NYNY.

The 10 days before Christmas are very slow in Las Vegas. You can probably also find great rates at Treasure Island, Mirage and even the Venetian.

I'm so excited. Never been to LV before!

The rates astounded us! They do shoot up quite a bit after Christmas. Maybe we're getting there at a good time.

Thanks for your help!

We stayed at the Orleans in May and our room was nicer than ones I've had on the Strip. It also seemed quieter and less smokey than the hotels on the Strip. They run a shuttle to the Strip and we didn't find it inconvenient at all. You might appreciate Orleans' quieter side with a 7-year-old.

The 2 weeks before Christmas are the cheapest weeks of the entire year in Las Vegas. That's why you found the rates you did. Good timing!
For a first trip to LV I would STRONGLY recommend against staying at a hotel away from the strip. The strip is what makes LV what it is. And being able to walk to and from it is key. The Orleans is too far to walk and the shuttles are inconvenient since you waste a fair amount of time waiting for their schedule to fit yours--both ways.
The city of LV does not tolerate hookers hanging around the strip in a way that would bother tourists. You may see them hanging around the hotel bars at night, but not in tourist traffic areas.

Hi MarthaB - I've stayed at Luxor (reg rm & suite) loved the place. that neg part is it's way down on the strip. Try TI or PARIS they are centrally located & both nice.
OrLeans is average at best..You will miss all the glitzyness of the LV strip at night. and it's just to far off, unless you have a car then not so bad.

Good luck!

I have stayed at both---
I would choose the Luxor...
mainly because I felt "out of the loop" at the Orleans. I stayed there because the rates were 1/2 of any on the strip (Summer).there is a shuttle but seems a little inconvenient as it only lets you off at one casino on the srtip. However, the rooms were really nice and a great selection of restaurants.
Did you try the web site called Cheapo Las Vegas.. I found it very helpful...
Have a good time....
