Las Vegas in six days

We will be visiting LV between 12/26 – 1/1/2020. We are a family of six - four teenagers, my wife and I.

My provisional plan is to hit the usual attraction on the Strip and Downtown, and to take a trip to Hover Dam and Red Rock Canyon. As much as I would love to show the kids the GC, I am inclined to skip it - it is a long way.

1) Can the trip to Hover Dam and Red Rock Canyon be combined in one day, or is that too much?

2) I am hoping to visit a few shows such as David Copperfield or O (Cirque Du Soleil). What is the most cost efficient way to purchase the tickets? Should I do it asap online (such as vegas.com) or will I be able to get the tickets cheaper in LV just before the shows? My experience is that getting last minute deal for six tickets is not that easy.

Many thanks for your suggestions or comments.

A visit to Valley of Fire State Park worked out well combined with a visit to Hoover Dam on the same day for me. There is a road that comes down on the west side of Lake Mead that hits US 93 a couple miles from Hoover Dam. After going past the security checkpoint, go over the dam to the Arizona side and up to the second or third parking lot which are free. The pay parking garage on the Nevada side is a ripoff IMO.
Coming back from the dam, stop at the lot that has a trail to the walkway on the big bridge. The sidewalk has a great view of the dam. The sidewalk also has markers for the apex of the bridge and the state line.
You might want to spend more time out at Red Rocks watching climbers and other scenery. You would have to come back through the city to get out to Hoover Dam from Red Rock.
Ask the concierge at your hotel about the tickets you want to get.

What on earth are you going to do with four teenagers in Vegas for 6 days?

With kids, I would suggest you spend some time doing the drive and visit Grand Canyon. Spend the night there and do some hiking.

If the drive to GC is too much, at least do the 3 hour drive up to Zion National park and the 2+ hour drive to Death Valley and do go to Red Rock Canyon and Valley of Fire and Hoover Dam. If you get up and get going you could do one or two each day.

The kids will not be allowed in the gaming areas of the casinos, and many of the swimming pools will not be open.

Thanks for the suggestions. I have considered a trip to the Zion National Park and Valley of Fire looks nice too.

If we spend two days visiting the parks/Hover Dam, it is really just three full days in LV. Even without the casinos and the pools, there are other attractions (shows, roller coasters, High Roller, shark reef aquarium, museums) that should keep the kids entertained. If we add the Zion or Valley of Fire trip, it will be just two days.

Any suggestions regarding the show tickets purchase?

Glad to read Cirque du Soleil performances are in your future. Expect online and in advance will be the best way to ensure getting tickets on the nights you want. If your hotel has concierge service, they can help. CdS had a show where we stayed many moons ago---have forgotten the name of the hotel but it had a boat that "sank" every so often!

Enjoy and please let everyone know what you did.

The only place I see any discount for "O" is at https://www.smartervegas.com/shows.aspx

I haven't used them for the tickets but we have seen O-which is really spectacular. So hopefully it will be one you attend. Here is a good article on how to try to score discounts on shows. Although I will say that my expereince is that with a big name show like "O" the tickets never make it to the half price venues. I thought this was good advice from the article:

"While they offer many tickets to shows in Las Vegas they do not always offer those shows that you really want to attend. Do a little research before your trip and check the hotel website to see if tickets are typically available on the same day as the show. Call them and ask if they have tickets. If you call a few times you'll get a good idea of availability. If they tend to be sold out, you might want to buy your tickets before you get into town."

You could also visit the Springs Preserve which is not far from the Strip and Mt Charleston which is a failrly short drive.

Treasure Island was the name of the hotel. And, it did have a CduS show some years ago when we stayed there.
