Las Vegas in July 2021? Please Advise...
 

We are (hopefully) going to a concert in Las Vegas in July that was postponed from last year. I am not too excited about the temperatures in July in Vegas from what I have heard but my husband REALLY wants to go and the tickets were hard to come by soooooo.... First off this is our FIRST time to Vegas (We live in Iowa) and are hoping to get there on the 4th of July and will stay a week (Sunday to Sunday). My questions are:

1. Where to stay (keeping in mind that the concert is at Allegiant Stadium)? And would you suggest possibly staying at one hotel for half of the week and another hotel closer to the stadium at the end of the week?
2. What about food? (My husband is very much a steak and potato, Cheeseburger and fries type of guy - No Asian food)
3. Any "Can't Miss" shows that maybe we wouldn't even think about? Obviously keeping in mind if they are touring again.
4. Any other do's or don'ts???

Some facts about us:
We are flying to Vegas and don't plan on a rental car.
We are not drinkers.
We do have somewhat of a budget....would prefer to spend less than $150/night for hotel but otherwise it is a 5 year anniversary gift to each other so we are planning on having a good time.

The one time my DW and I stayed on "The Strip" we stayed at the Luxor at the south end of the strip. I'm thinking that the Allegiant Stadium is also in the south end of LV. Rooms at the Luxor by my research are in the range of $71 to$90/night. I don't know if they will still be there in July, but the Blue Man Group will be at the Luxor at least part of 2021. Carrot Top has been there for years. In the pyramid the inclinators in the corners feel a bit weird when compared with elevators. See if Allegiant flies from an Iowa airport to Las Vegas. Las Vegas is their main hub. When you buy tickets from them, they offer hotel rooms sometimes at a discount from what you can get from Priceline. To get to the north end, you may be able to ride "The Deuce" which is a double decker bus. You can buy single trip tickets or a ticket that is good for trips for 24 hours.
At the north end of the strip is the "Fremont Street Experience". There is a spectacular light show over Fremont St. (pedestrian only) every night. Check for the time. Also along Fremont is the Golden Nugget which has my favorite all you can eat buffet upstairs. From the window upstairs you have a view of the pool which has a slide that goes through the shark tank. The Golden Nugget has the world's largest gold nugget that is on public display (62+ lb.). Have a great anniversary!

When looking for lodging in Vegas, be sure to get the total cost for a night. Most of the places only near the strip have a “resort fee” that will add $$ to the final cost as well as the usual taxes etc.

True. The resort fee is $35 per day at the Luxor which still puts you in the $100/night range.

I guess I don't see the attraction of going to LV in July for a week. I can understand the concert thing so maybe a couple days, but an entire week? In JUly no less? I don't like LV, to be honest, but I can see if you have some shows you want to see being there for a couple days, but personally, I would never stay there a week. Flights are pretty cheap nowadays, I just think there are b etter ways to spend one's money since you don't even seem that excited about it. I can't think of anything great to do in the area in JUly, either. But Hoover Dam is interesting and I think you can do Grand Canyon on a day trip from there, not sure. But I don't know about those in July, either. NV has some ldecent mountains and outdoors stuff but you aren't going to rent a car, so that's out.
I did a canoe trip once down the CO river and we put in at Hoover Dam, which was a long walk (down). At least you can do a Hoover Dam day trip, those exist, better than being in LV every day all day, doing I don't know what.

The problem is right now shows are closed so who knows what will be open in July. But I suppose there are some long running things to consider.

If your husband likes things like burgers, etc., I don't see why there is a problem, you can easily find stuff to eat everywhere. So not sure what your question is on food, maybe clarify what you are asking.

A week is a long time in Vegas especially in July when the pool areas get hot about 10-11am. I would reconsider the rental car and get one for a couple of days and drive to Zion and stay there a night (or two if you want to hike).
Food is really subjective but I would probably want to visit one of the Gordon Ramsay places, for steak Hell's Kitchen in Caesar's Palace.

Thank you Christina! That is good information. The concert is the 11th. But my husband thought it would be neat to be there on the 4th of July? so that is why the length...but maybe that isn't worth it? Our original plan was a Wednesday through Sunday so I'm kinda with you on the length of time there. As far as the food...what I was thinking if I didn't mention the burgers/steaks thing was that people would give great recommendations of asian/sushi meals or restaurants that there wouldn't be a single thing on the menu my husband would eat. : )

Thanks Jamie! I am starting to either reconsider the length OR possibly rent a car for a few days and go somewhere else. We have friends in Colorado so maybe that might be an option for a few days.

Consider renting a car for at least 2 days. Drive out to see Hoover Dam. The Hoover Dam Lodge is OK if you want to stay overnight. Sometimes there is a helicopter ride from a bank next to the parking lot.
Also in the LV area, is the Red Rock area out Charleston and the Valley of Fire SP east of I-15. There is a connector road between VoF and the Hoover Dam area on the west side of Lake Mead.

Mandalay Bay hotel and Luxor are the closest --sounds like they have a ride share if you don't want to walk...weekends are more expensive in Vegas and I would think the 4th would be too.......ck out resort fees too

I agree with others that a week is too long for LV. I prefer staying mid-strip, Bellagio, Caesar’s, Mirage, Paris, Venetian, Aria.

I like the Flamingo.The location and the prices. Have also stayed at The Imperial Palace. It has been awhile since I have been there so not sure when they have been updated. Join members club(it will be Caesars Member Club) for deals.I put in the dates of July 4 to July 11th and the average is $77. You could move down to Mandalay Bay for the concert.I take it it is Garth Brooks.It could be hard to get a cab if you stay mid strip- don't know about Uber or Lyfte there maybe you could ask before you book a hotel to know that info. I always like Flamingo local to walk to other hotels. Also love the Circ shows. Loved Mystere'........Also ask about resort fees....don't be shocked and not ask....Good Luck and have fun,don't stress......and yes July will be hot(you could fry an egg on the sidewalk0.

I agree that a week in July is too much. But there is a lot to see quite close to Vegas so a rental car makes a lot of sense. They are fairly cheap if you pick up and drop off in Vegas. I think Colorado would probably be too far for a round trip especially if you only want to give it a few days. But besides Zion, the most popular (and for good reason) place there is Valley of Fire State Park. I drove right by it the first time I was in the area since, because it was a state park I figured it couldn't possibly be as good as the national parks, but on a later trip I did do it and it was magnificent. And it's definitely close enough for a day trip. But I'd probably do half a week with a rental car before or after your half a week there.

Take a day trip to Hoover Dsm and lake meade. Nice there. Las vegas is all gambling but theres usually cheap food. Some of the resorts uptown are nice. Maybe go see some of the shows if you can.
I would go to Lake Tahoe for some of your stay. Hear it's nice there.

do not know what will be open because of covid.......there is the Belaggio fountains and botanical gardens....volcano at Caesars' and inside is beautiful(looks like a moving skies and Forums Shops.....the Canals at Venice and Gondala's.....the Eiffel Tower tour at Paris........New York New York.......the Ferris Wheel....downtown Freemont Street Experience......Ethel M Candy and Gardens'.....Red Rock Canyon(early morning).......google things to do in Vegas....the Cirq shows are great.....the Tropicana used to have Burlesque shows(if interested)........there are some good shows in Vegas...Hoover Dam if open.....there are things to do beside gamble..

Assuming you're going to see Garth Brooks, and that's on the 10th not the 11th of July.

The Mandalay seems the closest to the stadium and is in your price range.

It gets really hot there, but you can avoid the heat pretty well. Everything inside is well air conditioned and most of the places on the strip are connected in such a way that you can travel between the casinos and venues without even going outside. I assume the concert is at night so it shouldn't be too bad in terms of weather. I'd look for something off the strip where hotels tend to be more affordable and then you can take a taxi/uber to wherever you want to go. The times I've been to Vegas I never spent much time at the hotel outside of sleeping anyway.

Downtown is cheaper (hotel, food). Uptown the hotels are more luxurious and you have to take a shuttle bus to get to each hotel, whereas downtown you can walk to each hotel/casino. I would recommend going to a show. Cause the rest is all gambling, unless you just go out to eat. I went to lake meade and Hoover dam. Maybe you can take a day trip or couple of days to Lake Tahoe? I wished I had gone there.
