Las Vegas hotels using Priceline.com

I'm trying to decide whether to make a Priceline.com bid for a 4-star (or 3-star?) hotel on the Las Vegas strip for an upcoming 3-night stay (Fri-Mon).

I'd love to hear about other people's experiences with Priceline.com: What did you bid (for a 4-star vs. 3-star hotel)? Was your bid accepted? If so, where did you end up staying? Any idea which hotels have 3 stars and 4 stars according to Priceline?

Thanks in advance!!!! :)

There are several entire web sites dedicated to these questions: www.biddingfortravel.com is one.

Look at biddingfortravel.com. We got the Venetian (5*) for $120 a night (Sat/Sun).

There are lots of ways to get cheap Vegas hotels without Priceline. I've used TravelWorm.com in the past for Reno - give them a try before doing a Priceline bid. At least you can get an idea of the prices on your dates.

I'm not interested in Las Vegas myself, but the moderator of the following board is something of an expert:

we always book a room so we know we have a place to stay (usually at harrah's because it's in the middle of the strip and affordable) and then play around with bidding. las vegas hotels are generous with cancellation policy, usually only require 24-72 hour notice. also, i've always gotten a better rate directly through hotel websites through their own promotions, never through expedia, travelocity, etc.

Thanks for all the helpful comments. I've read through the postings on www.biddingfortravel.com and www.betterbidding.com. Both great sites!!

I've tentatively booked 3 nights at the Luxor (using the hotel's website) as a back-up plan. But I might try for the Venetian on Priceline.com. Not sure if I want to try for a 4-star hotel on Priceline. It seems like most people end up at the Westin Casuarina (just off the strip) - has anybody stayed there??

If this is your first time to Vegas, i wouldn't recommend staying at the Luxor. Ideally, you want to be between MGM and Treasure Island... the more in the center of that area the better.

The Westin will not be open until October so nobody has stayed there. If I were you I would try for the Venetian..it is a sure thing. We stayed over Mother's day and it was great!

My husband and I just booked our Vegas trip thru Priceline and we were able to choose the hotel we preferred by name. Maybe we were able to do this because we booked air travel as well. Have a great trip!
