LAS VEGAS HOTELS
 

Does anyone have any hints for getting a good deal on a hotel in Las Vegas? Need to be centrally located on the strip as we are not renting a car. Going in October '08.

For me it's about location. I like the Flamingo Las Vegas for that reason. They have GO, very modern rooms available for upgrade. Look at their website for HOT deals It's not all that expensive I don't think

Try looking on i4vegas.com - they usually have pretty great deals. As another poster suggested, the Flamingo is a good choice. I also like Paris and it's in a good location, except for the construction going on near there. But the hotel itself is nice and reasonable most of the time.

I just booked the Desert Rose Resort for my dad's business trip in October. It is just off the strip, but I got him a one bedroom suite with full kitchen for $70 a night Sun-Thurs. They have 2 bedroom suites as well. It is across the side street from MGM next to Hooters. The MGM monorail station is right there. They also have free continental breakfast.

I go to Vegas atleast ten times a year and the best tip for great hotel deals is don't book until the day before or day of arrival. I know that may seem scary but trust me. There are endless amounts of hotel rooms in Vegas so you will never have a problem getting a room. Also check with the actual hotel websites, sometimes it's cheaper to book on their website than a discount website.

This advice really works well unless your going on a holiday. I always stay at the Wynn which is the premiere property in all of Las Vegas and I never book until I leave for Vegas. I usually get a room for $199 a night when they usually run between $399 and $699 a night. If your to worried about booking so close to the arrival date then book now and look at prices 48 before you leave so you can cancel the old reservations and possibly get a better deal at even a nice hotel on the strip.

PS. You don't need to be centrally located if your not renting a car. Cabs are cheap and most people walk anyway. Walking is the only way to see as much as you can.

I think the best rule of thumb for deals on hotels in Las Vegas is to go mid-week or arrive on a Sunday and leave on a Thursday. Friday Saturday nights are premium rates no matter what time of year or what is going on.

I have been to LV probably 5 times, but I never go on a weekend. If you can arrange that go for it.

Just got back from Las Vegas this week. It had been 9 years since I had been there. The Flamingo had always been one of our favorite hotels. Prior to our trip I bought Fodor's 2008 book and checked out the Flamingo web site. Fodor's book and the Flamingo web site both led me to believe the Flamingo hadn't changed at all. It looked like it still was a great place to stay. Well let me tell you they have really let it go. If you do stay there make sure you book a GO Room. The standard room will make you throw up. Also, if you plan on using the pool, don't expect it to be clean but do expect the stench from the clogged drainage system.

We stayed at Bally's last month and it was very central and very low priced. I'd recommend that for a good deal, centrally located.

Question for casey_reed 84: How do you get those rates for the Wynn, even at last minute? Through hotel directly? Through hotel's website? We recently stayed at the Bellagio. I had booked the stay sometime before we left; checked constantly for better deals -- one a bit better came up, which they honored. But I actually found that in the week to days before we left the rates went up -- and it was not on a holiday or busy time -- in fact, it was mid-week (M-Th) the end of June.

We have looked at every discount web site going, but we always get the best deals on Expedia, the trick is to look every two days as the prices can change all the time, we looked at Wynns yesterday and you could get a room for $145, although we always prefer off strip at Southpoint, $50, we have booked it for October. Fabulous rooms, better that the Bellagio which incidently we got for $100 last year! Harrahs is in a nice location and there are deals on there at the moment if booking in advance.
