Las Vegas Hotels
 

I will be in Las Vegas for vacation in June. I have a fear of heights and have never been a fan of highrise hotels. I don't really like being much above the 4th or 5th floor. Are there any nice hotels that will fit my worries/fears? I would still like to be in the center of the fun.<BR><BR>I hear on this board people make special requests for specific locations within particular hotels, has anyone ever requested a lower level room? <BR><BR>What level would rooms start on? I am assuming casinos are on bottom floor!

Casinos are always the 1st floor but then sometimes the restaurants and shops are the next floor. Each hotel varies. I would pick a hotel that you want to stay at and call them and ask. How have you dealt with other hotels in the past? I've never had a ground floor room except at a motor inn.

My guess is that most people would request a high floor. So it probably would be fairly easy for you to request and get a lower floor room.

Yes you can request a lower floor and many people do. The reservation clerk at Mirage told me that many people do not want to stay on the higher floors due to safety concerns. She told me that she personally did not like the higher floors. The rooms start on the second floor. Downside is that you get no view and may get noise from the casino. <BR>Is this being paranoid? After they had the big casino hotel fires in Las Vegas(MGM?) and Reno some years ago the San Francisco fire chief made public statements that he personally would never stay above the 3d floor in a casino hotel. He said that he believed that to do so was unsafe.<BR>As far as fear of heights, I share this problem. But it has not bothered me in hotels as you can't open the windows so it feels like a glass wall. However, some rooms have windows that go all of the way to the floor. This can be disconcerting. If you are uncomfortable after seeing the room, the better hotels will have no problem finding you another room.

By the way, stay away from the Luxor pyramid. They have open balconies in front of the rooms where you look down on the hotel floor.

another choice is super 8 on koval. nothing fancy but clean, small pool and only about 2 blocks to the strip.

Does anyone know the name of the resort complex across the street from the Hard Rock Cafe? It's quite large and has several swimming pools...they have mini-suites and suites...anyway, I was going to recommend it to this poster because it's one level throughout...I stayed there years ago and it was very nice. It's a couple of blocks to the strip.

That's the Alexis Park,Merilee. Has had good reviews at times in the past (good reviews in Fodor's and Frommer's 7-10 years ago), but since the luxury hotel building boom, the AP has become less popular and I've read the quality has been spotty from room to room. It's an apartment type set-up.<BR>But, the idea is still a good one for someone seeking to avoid taller hotels. All low rise units.
