Las Vegas Hotel Upgrade

Will be staying at the Venetian next week. Has anyone been successfully upgraded to one of the nicer suites here by using the $20.00 trick? I'm not sure if it's worth a try. I've got two connecting rooms reserved. I found out that the 1100 sq.ft Piazza suites also connect to their basic rooms. I've thought about slipping desk agent a $50.00 to ask for the upgrade. Any thoughts? I'm sure I can get an upgraded view of the strip for nothing.

I doubt with the two rooms connecting, you will get upgraded to a high roller suite. The higher floor will be more likely. If you dont think its worth a try for 20 bucks, why is it for 50?

Venetian is the one of the hotels at in LV that i would NOT try it.... and why would you be so certain of an upgrade to a room with a view of the strip? (some hotels consider this an upgrade, some don't)

Venetian does charge more for the strip view rooms. I'm pretty sure I could get upgraded to a strip view because the hotel isn't that full during the time we'll be there, and we'll be arriving in the afternoon when most of the rooms should be clean but as yet unoccupied.

The only reason I thought a $50.00 would be better than a $20.00 is that it would be asking for a big upgrade and I wasn't sure if a $20.00 would be enough of an incentive.

I don't think they consider these Piazza suites high roller suites because you can book them on their website. I'm pretty sure the high roller suites are by invite only.

We had a room at the Bellagio overlooking the pools. We asked for one overlooking the lake and that was $50 more, why tip him, just pay the difference.

Kathy,
When I stayed at Bellagio I got upgraded to a corner lakeview room just for asking. I will definitely ask for the upgraded view at the Venetian without an extra tip.

However the upgraded suite I was hoping to get is over $300.00 a night more than we're paying for our room. That's why I don't want to just pay the difference.

Last year I tried the $20 tip at Paris, and it worked quite well.

First I asked for a view, and the nice lady at check-in told me those rooms were $20 more per night, and then she offered a suite for $100 more per night. I declined the suite but took the view. Then she told me that she could give me a regular room with a view, and then a suite for our last night there. I thought that was nice, and discreetly took a $20 bill from my wallet. She must have seen it, because she started typing furiously on her computer. After 2-3 minutes, she walked around the counter to tell me: "You are all paid for, you have a suite for your whole stay. It doesn't have a view, but hey, its a suite!"

Goes without saying that she got the $20.

Next sunday I'll be trying the same at a different hotel.

For what I know, it never hurts to ask NICELY for an upgrade, while making it clear that you are willing to give a generous tip to the check-in clerk. It is common practice in LV.

I think that $50 is reasonable for the Venetian. Then again, the Venetian has the largest standard rooms in the world, so probably it would be better to try getting connecting standard rooms with a view.

Just to let you know what a $20 tip got me at Treasure Island a couple of weeks ago. It didn't get me a suite but I got a room on the 33rd floor, with an incredible view of The Strip, a bunch of discount coupons (the ones I used were worth more than $50), a bottle of champagne and a fruit basket. Not bad at all!
