Las Vegas, hotel stay on the strip or off?
I am planning a surprise trip to L.V. in March for my DH birthday. Our sons & d-inlaws decided to add to the surprise and join us. I have connecting suites reserved at the Embassy Suites. I like the idea of having a full breakfast available and happy hour.. included. A friend has a condo at the Hilton Flamingo that we can rent. However we would have to eat all meals out or find a store for breakfast foods. We are not into casinos and night life although the kids would like to be nearby. Is it better to stay on the strip or off? My main objective is having a place that we can all be together to enjoy each other's company.

If you really are not going to head to the strip then it seems like a great choice.
However if your group/kids are going to spend money on cabs to the strip, I'd stay on the strip. Meaning, your cabs will cost more than any money you are saving on breakfast. If you have a car of course this is not an issue.
You can always buy a few simple breakfast items if you stay on the strip. We have stayed at the Flamingo condos. You'll have a kitchen so you can stock some breakfast food.

We stayed off the strip, and it seems we spent a lot of time going back and forth via shuttle bus. (I live in Nevada and don`t gamble) but being off the strip seemed a waste of time. If we wanted to go out at night, instead of just wandering out on the strip, we had to catch the shuttle bus. I`d stay on the strip.

Agree with the posters above. As for breakfast, most of the casino/hotels have very nice breakfast buffets that will cook eggs to order fairly inexpensively and often give two for one or free coupons when you check in. If you have a car there are lots of places in the area to go for non gambling activities, like Red Rock Canyon, Valley of Fire, Hoover Dam, Death Valley to name a few.
Have a nice trip.

I think that you all have convinced me to stay on the strip in the condo. Thanks for your imput. We haven't decided if we will have a car the whole time or just for the day we plan to do Red Rocks, etc. I guess with the savings we are getting renting our friend's condo we could put that toward a car. Any suggestions on finding discount tickets to the shows? I've seen some pretty hefty prices on some of the shows. Plus multiply that times 6 of us!!!!

Some of the afternoon shows are excellent. They are cheaper than evening shows, and discounts are often available. You may also find discounts here: http://www.broadwaybox.com/lasvegas/
