Las Vegas - Hotel Shows Along Strip?

We are leaving for California tomorrow morning - visiting my dad, celebrating his 80th birthday, etc. He lives about an hour south of Yosemite, so we plan to go there for a day as well.

This morning, dh mentioned he thought it would be fun to come back to New Mexico by going through Las Vegas.

Remember when we had that thread about places you don't want to visit? Vegas is #1 on my list. :-) I reminded him of that little fact, and he said, "Oh, but they have those shows outside the hotels along the Strip, and that would be fun."

Soooo...do those shows still exist? Would Vegas really be worth a detour?

The whole Strip is a show, but visitors usually like the Bellagio fountains and the pirate show at TI. The only bar show open to the Strip that I can think of is at Harrah's.

We'll have our kids (17 and 9 1/2) with us, so I don't think we'd want to see the bar show :-)

Thanks for the other suggestions, though! We will check them out, and hopefully we'll have time to read through our AAA stuff as we drive.

The bar show is totally harmless. You don't need to pony up to the bar and have a drink. Just stand on the sidelines or watch the show from the nearby ice cream parlor.

Also, Harrah's offers the hysterical afternoon Mac King comedy/magic show that the whole family will love. Two-for-one tickets are usually availble from a "show girl" hanging out in the shopping area near the aforementioned bar.

Thanks for the further explanation. I appreciate it!

Circus Circus was fun for our kids ( a cheap buffet breakfast too). Most all the casinos have some sort of "attraction" suitable for the whole family. Several have something 'out front". Others, require you to walk thru their casinos, and malls to get to the attraction.

New York, New York has a roller coaster on top of it's casino ( no I haven't done it...I HATE roller coasters!). But my kids always like that sort of thing.

Go to lasvegas.com to check out each casino and their attractions/restaurants.
