Las Vegas Hotel for $50?

Any suggestions for a first time visit hotel for mid Oct for around $50 a night? Sahara? Stratosphere? Or downtown at El Cortez? Four Queens? Not interested in gambling, just a decent room for a father and son (132 years old) in a good location or good public transport to main attractions.

Try the Stratosphere, Gold Coast, or The Orleans. They're a bit off the beaten path, but the deal is worth it. The Orleans and Gold Coast both have a free shuttle to the strip and the Stratosphere is on the bus line.

Is the father or son 132 years old? I would suggest something that was easily accessible . . .

:-)

Yesterday I posted a reply to it suggesting Flamingo's website - they often have $55 specials. Is this another post or was mine deleted?

Rio has great rooms (600sf "suites,") and midweek can get in that $50 range. Not on the strip, but they have a shuttle to Harrah's.

Much appreciate your replies.
Yes, I did post it yesterday but it seemed to vanish into thin air.
Don't worry about accessibility, we need the exercise: at 132 if you don't use it, you lose it.

Gold Coast $47, Orleans $65, Flamingo $92, Rio $159 according to Expedia.com. I'll certainly take a closer look at Gold Coast.

Under $50 we went to Vegas for Cheap on our way bcak from Burning Man! Great option instead of eating every meal out.
Just off the strip with a kitchen. Check out Homestead Hotels. (http://www.homesteadhotels.com)

I am so amazed that you found rooms for this price! This is really great!
Don't worry about the age, there are plenty of other 132 year old people walking about, they manage just fine!

Have fun, Good Luck!! (I love it when in LV, no matter where you go or what you do, someone will wish you Good Luck:)

Found the Homestead Las Vegas / Midtown, if that's what you mean. Going for $75 on our dates, so still a bit high for us. Thanks anyway.

Try one of the chain motels - Comfort Inn, Days Inn, Quality Inn. Try Hotwire. It lists quite a few places in the $30 to $50 range for Oct. 15. You don't know what hotel you're getting, but you can pick location and amenities. Or try Priceline.

bookhall Sep 26th, 2003 01:04 PM

Also, you might check directly with the hotel/motel websites. Often, with Las Vegas, there are better deals going direct than through the expeditors.

Try some sites other than expedia. Some local ones I prefer are tripreservations.com, vegas.com, lasvegas.com. They may have some better prices. You can also try Alexis Park, Tuscany, or Silverton. The first 2 are just east of the Strip and Silverton is way South, but has a free shuttle.

Scarlettt some of them look as if they've been at the slots for at least 132 years don't they?!

ChristieP Sep 26th, 2003 01:36 PM

You might also try some of the Motel 6 properties in the area. As I recall, there were a couple riught by the strip...

smalley -- Personally, I would choose to stay in a 2* on the strip rather than a 3-4* off the strip, but that's just me! Circus-Circus and Westward Ho are both within your price range and I imagine the Stratosphere as well. We have stayed at Westward Ho and it is similar to a 2* Howard Johnson. We usually stay at Harrah's because the price is right for the location and the hotel's very nice. In October we're trying Treasure Island and they have specials going for October weekdays at $85/night. Have a great time!

Good rates at tripreservations: Stratosphere $45, Orleans $52. Orleans looks good. Favourable reviews. I gather it's about 1 mile off the strip so just about walkable?

marz_n_manda Sep 26th, 2003 01:57 PM

The Strip is accessible from the Orleans, but I would suggest the shuttle. Walking to the Strip takes you through some industrial spots and over the highway. There's also lots of traffic- I drive it every day.
It's a nice place to stay, though. It has a pretty good buffet (I think it's $11-14 for dinner), bowling alley, movie theater, and nice rooms. That would be one of my top recommendations in the price range!

Smalley Sep 26th, 2003 01:57 PM

Yes, found a Motel 6 on Tropicana for $34.

kikahead Sep 26th, 2003 02:05 PM

Did you look at travelzoo.com? They have TONS of deals! I don't know what your dates are but hopefully at least one would work for you!
