Las Vegas Hotel Choices
 

My family, including son 17 and daughter 19 will be spending 2 nights in LV in early August. I've narrowed the hotel choice to Paris at $180 per night for the 4 of us, Monte Carlo $140 or Bally's $130. Which would you recommend?

Do those prices include the extra-person charges?

Monte Carlo rooms are cramped with 4 people, but the bathroom is nice and large so it's a tradeoff. We got a better rate there by calling direct.

What else matters to you beyond price? I have stayed at all 3.

IMHO: Paris is the nicest hotel.
Bally's has the biggest rooms.
Monte Carlo is good for teens.

Paris and Bally's toss up for best location. Bally's has the best pool, Paris the worst. Monte Carlo is easiest to get around in. Paris is the newest, Bally's is the oldest. Paris has the most "wow" factor, Bally's the least.

Thanks for your response. Room size isn't that crucial in importance. We like a nice pool, but with only 2 days there I'm not sure how much we'll use it. I'm thinking of staying at Bally's and spending time at Paris (Buffets). I know they're connected. Are they close enough that we could easily do that? Part of me thinks that LV is so "busy" that a retreat to a "simpler" hotel isn't a bad idea, but then the other part of me says "go for the "glitz" and stay at Paris. Do you think the prices will come down for early August (or might they go up)? Is that a busy time of year there?

August is not a busy time of year for tourism in Vegas. It's just too darn hot! :)

We were there last month and decided that if we went back we would love to stay at Bally's. Not because it's so wonderful, but because it is directly connected to Paris, via a short mall area, and because it's pretty cheap. Best combination to me! I loved the common areas of Paris, including the casino, but like to save money on hotel rooms when possible.

That said, I'd probably book Bally's now (through a cancellable rate on their web site) and see what prices do between now and then. Verify that the rate is cancellable, but most are up to 48 hours in advance. Then sign up for the email promotions from any hotel in LV that you're interested in. You may just get a spectacular deal from one of them between now and August.

Just stayed at the Paris Hotel - 1st time in Vegas. The Paris is beautiful but quite expensive. Room was small. Friendly employees. If you go to the Paris webiste, you can take a 360 turn of the standard room. Four people in there will be tight, but if you are not in the room much except to sleep and dress, you MAY be okay. I personally wouldn't have 4 in a standard Paris room unless I was on an extremely tight budget, but then I'd most likely go elsewhere.

The Paris pool we did not use but was not too impressive to see anyway from out hotel window. However, I don't have anything to compare it with.

Bally's is a 10 (give or take) minute stroll from Paris. However, the atmosphere doesn't compare to Paris. Paris was my favorite hotel (besides Luxor). If you stay at Paris, get the Connections Card. It's good for 10% off Paris related hotel which include Bally's, Ceasars, Flamingo, Grand Casino, Hilton, but you have to show it when paying in order to get the discount. Take a trip atop the Effiel Tower, it's great picture taking especially at night (get 10% off too).

Paris / Bally's are very center strip. Expect to do lots of walking so be sure to bring comfy shoes if you venture out on the strip.

August specials are up already for Bally's and Paris, book one of their package rates...it'll be about the same per night but you'll get loads of coupons for match-play and dining.

Weekend rates probably won't go down much, if any, between now and then.

The relationship between Paris and Bally's is as close as it gets in Vegas. Very easy to stay at one and eat/visit the other. Do not have to even go outdoors.

I would have to assume at those prices, you are looking at a weekend. Be sure and call directly and or sign up at the websites for their mailings. All those properties will email you specials or at minimum package deals.

The rates are not weekend. It's $119 for a Wednesday, $79 for a Thursday. The rate jumps up when you add my 19 year old in who's considered an adult. It's another $30/night!

I would stay at Bally's - it's got a better pool area that your teens will like. Considering they can't gamble and will get shooed out of the casinos and it's too hot in August for anything else - the pool will be their main focus. Also, the monrail has a stop (right near the pool) which is pretty convenient. To get to Paris, just walk through the shopping corridor and you're there - like the other poster said you don't even have to go outside. It is NOT a 10 minute stroll to Paris from Bally's - it's connected. Paris has some yummy food choices too - the creperie and the bakery are great. Also you can substitute a croissant (chocolate!) for toast in the cafe with breakfast.

Depending on when you're there (what days of the week) you might want to see the Society of Seven show in the showroom. They are great and the show is only about $42 pp. Your kids can go to that show and will enjoy it too. This is one of the most talented groups on the entire Strip.
