Las Vegas hotel advice-late night arrival
 

I will be arriving to Las Vegas at midnight Saturday night from the East Coast. I have great rates for my stay Sun and Mon night at the MGM Grand and don't want to spend $250 -$300 just to sleep there on Sat night because I am sure by the time we get through the airport and to the hotel and check in it will be 2 a.m. I thought we might stay at the Atrium Suites (reasonable) for that night or maybe try to get agood rate at the Embassy Suite Airport (close and easy). Does this make sense to you?

Others might say different, but I would do just as you're suggesting - stay the first night in a more reasonably priced hotel and then switch to the MGM Grand on Sunday. I go to Vegas for fun several times a year, and I wouldn't mind the inconvenienc of switching hotel rooms if it saves me some money. This is Vegas and you're arriving at midnight. You'll either go straight to your hotel room, turn out the lights and go to sleep...or you'll be out all night gambling. Why spend $250-300 on a hotel room that you won't enjoy (knowing that you'll be staying there cheaper the second and third nights). Better to spend that money at the craps table :-).

On the other hand, if this is your first time in Vegas, the experience might be more fun if you stay all your nights in one place...

La Quinta Inn Paradise Road is fine for a one-nighter. But check the rates at the Tropicana...sometimes they're pretty reasonable and you have just a walk across the street to check in to the MGM next day.

Of course it makes sense to save money but if you are only going to save $50 or so then I would go straight to the MGM and not hassle with moving the next day. Sometimes rooms are not ready when you want them to be :-) and you might end up hanging around waiting for your MGM room when you could be doing something worthwhile !! (you can always leave your luggage with the Bell Desk tho and come back later if you had to wait for a room).

Also, factor in the price of a cab to the MGM. Unless you stay right across the street you will need a cab/tips from Embassy Suites, etc.

If the savings are substantial then do it, otherwise I would not bother simply becuase of the inconvenience for just a 3 night stay.

I think what you're proposing makes some sense, and something I might do (I would check the Marriott properties that have airport transportation, I know the Fairfield Airport does). But realize that there's a good chance the MGM won't let you checkin and get your room until mid-afternoon.

Good news!! I called MGM GRand and through reservations I was able to get a great rate for Sat night as well. I am delighted
