Las Vegas Help!

Planning to do 3 days in Vegas for the first time and need some HELP!. Forty something couple looking to lounge (veg) by the pool, eat some good food and gamble (just a little). We do want top notch accomodations and the prices look great now but there are SO many choices. Please give me your recommendations for where to stay.

If booking Wynn or Encore for a weeknight stay, try promo code MJJASV

If you are wanting top top notch then you can't go wrong with The Four Seasons. It does not have its own casino so you can avoid gambling until you want to.

We're a 40s couple just back from Vegas where we stayed at the Encore. We don't tan so can't vouch for the veging, but the pool area seemed nice. Rooms - all suite-style - are excellent and the casino is smaller and less brash than most on the Strip. Nice atmosphere around the place, staff are excellent and the food is first rate. We breakfasted at the buffet - the best we've ever had in Vegas - and also ate at Cafe Society, SW at the Wynn and Switch at Encore. The latter two came up with some of the finest meals we've ever had, anywhere. Ever. Just wonderful! Elsewhere, we've always enjoyed our stays at Mandalay Bay, where a room was just $65 a night last week.

Thanks for the replies. Rates appear to be going up so I plan to make a decision soon. We may even take the kids so if anyone sees aany deals out there...please make post it.

Leave the kids at home (unless they're 21). Vegas is great for all the things you mention. Wife & I go 1-2 times a year and definitely leave the kids behind. Enjoy!

DivineMissM: Thanks for the code! Where did you find that at?

SMac Aug 14th, 2009 07:32 PM

You can probably get codes off of "smartervegas.com". They have all the hotels and shows on there.

I was curious - has anyone stayed at the Bellagio? What did you think?

volcanogirl Aug 15th, 2009 05:47 AM

I was just checking out rates at the Bellagio, and they are sky high. I guess I need to check around for some codes. I didn't realize there was such a huge hike in prices for a weekend. The night I was looking at was $459 - argh.

We have stayed at the Bellagio and it is very nice. Our room was pretty small, but it was new and clean. We had a wonderful meal at Prime Steakhouse and I like the little chocolate/coffee shop. I like the location because you are right in the middle of the strip and close to the shops at Ceasars (if you like to shop). My friend swears by the Four Seasons because there is no casino in the lobby - therefore you don't have to walk through a loud, crazy smoky area to get to your rooms. Definitely leave your kids at home! We took our daughter to Vegas when my husband ran the marathon there and it is definitely NOT something I would do again. It is loud, smoky and there are risque pictures of women everywhere. You can't walk 10 steps along the strip without 20 people trying to give you little cards advertising naked women willing to come to your hotel room. 99% of these cards end up on the sidewalk face up so it is basically like walking along a porno trail - with lots of questions from our daughter. There may be fun things to do with kids in Vegas, but I'd rather save the family vacation for somewhere a little more "innocent."

Attnymom, my husband said the same thing. He went to Vegas for a trade show, and he said that they hand you all these fliers advertising hookers - I've never been to Vegas, so it's hard for me to imagine this.

coldplay Aug 15th, 2009 11:31 AM

For heavens sake its Vegas not Disneyland. I have never been offended by anything in Las Vegas and I have seen some things believe me, but I am a well adjusted adult so can take it in my stride. If anyone thinks they will be offended then don't go, but hey its Vegas.

rncheryl Aug 15th, 2009 11:43 AM

Loved our stay at Bellagio. Very friendly staff, plenty of little areas to listen to music and have a drink. The room was very comfortable and view of the fountains is special. Location can't be beat. Now about that price....

Attnymom Aug 15th, 2009 12:54 PM

Cold - I don't recall anyone saying they were offended. If you read my post carefully, you'll see that this well adjusted adult does not think it is a good place for a family vacation - with kids - for the reasons stated above. I have been to Vegas several times without my child and have enjoyed each trip.

volcanogirl Aug 15th, 2009 04:40 PM

cold, I'm also a well-adjusted adult, but who would want their child to see fliers advertising hookers?!

Bellagio looks wonderful; I'm going to continue looking for a cheaper rate. There's some big fight in town the weekend we want to go so that's thwarting my plan! cheryl, you make it sound wonderful.

If you think the flyers are bad, check out the yellow pages in the phone book in your room sometime..LOL I don't live in Las Vegas, but as a Nevada resident, please..they are NOT hookers, hookers are illegal in Clark County. They are "escorts", possible "message theropists", but they are NOT hookers. :D

volcanogirl Aug 16th, 2009 02:54 AM

cre, yes, thanks for clarifying that - lol!

Don't know about the hotel but the show I saw there was outstanding. Larry G Jones is an awarding winning impressionist. Has A fella who impersonates Red Skelton's old routines. I really enjoyed it. brought back some great memories.
Found them on web site.
