Las Vegas - Grand Canyon package ?

Hi, We have 2 adults and 2 kids (13 and 17). We like to visit LV in the last week of August and we plan to spend 2-3 days in LV and take an over night trip to Grand Canyon. Any suggestion for good tour package deals will be greatly appreciated. Also, any comments about Insight Tours, Contiki, Trafalgar or other tour companies?

I've never done a tour package. Is there any reason you don't want to just rent a car and drive yourselves? You could then be on your own schedule and do what you like.

1. I am afraid of hight, I am scared to drive mountain roads
2. Tour company can arrange lunge easier than myself

I don't mean to be critical or negative here but...

Three things come to mind:

On the LV to GC, I do not recall much, if any driving on mountain roads. Nothing like the Rockies or similar mountain ranges.

If you are that afraid of heights, GC is going to be a heart stopping experience for you unless of course you observe it as a horizon.

This is a pretty long trip for one night. You will spend most of your time on the road.

placeu2,

The only reason we are going to GC becasue my wife wants to go .... otherwise LV will be good enough.

Thanks

A few things: 1. make sure the bus tour is to the "south rim"; that if the bus is not as advertised that you can refund your money (some bus tours if they don't have a full bus try to substitute a smaller bus and less frills); forget the overnight and take the 12-15 hour bus tour.
You could wait until you get to your hotel and ask the hotel to recommend one of the bus companies.
My only bad experience was with a company called Guaranteed Tours who operated on the side of the Monte Carlo. Expect to pay $100 to $150 each.

I took a 6-day Cosmos tour (Sun-Fri) out of Vegas visiting Grand Canyon, Lake Powell, Monument Valley, Zion and Bryce. My only regret was: it was too short :)

One more "word to the wise." When booking a tour of the Canyon, make certain it takes you within the National Park. There is a section of the Grand Canyon, closer to Vegas, that is within the Havasupai Reservation. It's quite good to see, but not nearly as spectacular as the National Park. You'll pay less for your trip, but you'll see a LOT less. Don't be fooled by a lower price that promises the "Grand Canyon;" make certain you see the "National Park."

bfp74ny,

There are no mountain roads between Las Vegas and the Grand Canyon.

You will not be able to see down into the canyon until you get out of the vehicle and walk to the rim.

I don't know what a lunge is.

As others have mentioned, just make sure you are going to the South Rim.
