las/vegas-grand canyon
Traveling in June to Las Vegas for 4 days - would also like to do side trip to Grand Canyon/Hoover Dam -- any advice? (on LV or GC)

There are tours from vegas to the hoover dam. I dont know if you can tour or need to rent a car and drive to the grand canyon. When i went i flew in to vegas and rented a car drove to the hoover dam and then to the grand canyon. Check and see how long of a drive it will be..time could be an issue. but the views are worth it.

There have been a few discussions on this lately -- search for grand canyon to see.
If you drive yourself to Hoover Dam & the canyon you really should plan to sepnd a night in Tusayan (just outside the canyon) if any rooms are available -- they get booked up early. You could try inside the canyon but that gets booked up even earlier. |
All the major hotels in Vegas have info. on tours of the Grand Canyon. I booked a plane/helicopter tour at the Flamingo last year. It was about $250 a person, winter rate.

If you are planning on drive to the S. Rim you are looking at 280 miles and about 5 hours of driving ONE WAY! I'd suggest spending at least one night at the Grand Canyon or at nearby Tusayan.
