Las Vegas- getting from airport to Strip
 

Besides cab, are there shuttle buses that run from the Airport to the Strip? Train?

We will be staying at the Monte Carlo.

Does the shuttle take you to a particular hotel? Or just a general area on the strip? we will be travelling from SF so we will be having a bunch of luggage...

No train, but regular shuttles. Just follow the signs from the luggage area, step ouside, go to a ticket booth, pay either one way or a round-trip, and they will tell you which pole number you need to catch your shuttle.

Yes, it will take you to your hotel, check-in area. The shuttle driver will ask every passenger for hotel name. It will stop only at the hotels people go to on this shuttle run.

I live in San Francisco, please do tell what I am missing here, I always pack light for any place, including Las Vegas :)

Can't imagine why anyone would need a lot of luggage for Las Vegas - since the dress code for everyplace I saw was anything more than a swimsuit.

A cab is the way to go. If it is your first time there it is fun to hear your cabbie's advice and canter. It won't be that much to the Monte Carlo from the airport. I disagree with the dress code comment a bit, there are all kinds of people all different shapes and sizes just like everywhere you go. But have fun and get dressed up!

Oh, now I know! DS meant to say, they are going to San Francisco first (yes, it's cold here!) and after that to Vegas, this is why lots of luggage!

We are packing for a 10 day trip! and I've heard people tend to dress up inthe evenings especially in Vegas so will have more than the usual jeans/tees and sweaters!

The shuttle is like $6 - they take a couple of bucks off if you buy a round trip ticket in advance.

You do not need to dress up any more than you do for a night out in your own hometown....

First of all I don't think people dress up more in Las Vegas than in SF. I am heading to LV next week to work a convention and since I am in a business suit all day, I always change to jeans or more casual pants for dinner. And we go to some very nice places (yeah for expense accounts). You will see people in all kinds of clothes in Vegas, sweat pants, etc and other outfits you might wish you hadn't seen! But overall, people are pretty casual. This isn't to say you can't dress up for a nice dinner or show. When I notice people dressed up, it usually seems to be younger adults going to clubs or attending bachelor/bachelorette parties.

Also check out the weather before you leave. It is actually cooler at night in LV than it is in SF. The desert can get very cold once that sun goes down. Looking at the time of your trip, SF is running in the low 60's for the highs and in the 50's at night. Las Vegas is also in the low 60's but the low is in the 30's or 40's. So the clothes you are taking for SF will be just fine for LV.

I just got back from Las Vegas yesterday, and the comments about clothing rules being flexible are spot on.
As for cabs, some do now take credit cards. They will have stickers on the outside indicating this.

I actually just got back from vegas on Wednesday from my HM and outside baggage there is a little hut thingy that you can catch a shuttle from I believe it was $5 flat rate to any strip hotel

Is that not $5.00 per person? So for two people a cab at aprrox. $10.00 is faster, as the shuttle normally stops at many hotels.

Wow, cab fares in Vegas can vary depending on the route the driver takes. I personally would take a shuttle with 1 or 2 people. Or a city/ CAT bus if my luggage was light (which mine always is!).

I guess it would be for 2 people. We rented a car but I hear a cab there will cost you about as much as the shuttle. Depending on the distance and the driver I suppose
