Las Vegas Gaming & Clubs with a US passport?

I am most likely going to Las Vegas in about 3 weeks. I don't currently have a drivers license and to get an ID card will take 2-3 weeks. I have been using my passport around town as an ID and have not had any problems with it, but I know that certain nightclubs, bars, etc. can be very picky about the types of ID that they accept and I don't want to take any chances.

I'm not a drinker, so I'm not interested in being able to buy liquor at stores or in the bars, but I do know that you need to be 21+ to be in casinos, nightclubs, etc. Specifically, my husband & I are planning to go to a nightclub to see a rock band and while I've tried to contact them to see if using a US passport for age verification would be a problem, I've yet to get a response. I actually contacted the Las Vegas Tourism and Visitors Bureau, and while the representative was very helpful, the best they could do was say that "to the best of their knowledge" that US passports would be accepted for gaming purposes and liquor purchases.

Has anyone run into trouble doing this in Las Vegas? I know that they are probably used to getting foreign passports, but will they question why I don't have another ID card/drivers license? I noticed you can use a US passport to get a marriage license in Las Vegas, but I'm not fooling myself that every club has the same criteria as the city government.

I'm no authority, but I cannot believe that any establishment would not accept a passport as valid proof of one's age. In fact, I cannot think of a better document for proving one's age!

Passports are the ultimate ID and are the best!!!

Unless you look really young, it's unlikely you will be carded anywhere in LV. In any case, a passport is a legal and valid ID, better than a driver's license. It's accepted everywhere.

I know what you are talking about. Some clubs freak out a bit if they aren't handed a driver's license. Overall you should be fine. There might be some club that just won't do it (even though it is stupid and a passport is way better than a driver's license). I would just ask to see the manager.

Agree with the above and can only wish someone would look at my passport, then me, then my passport again before allowing me in.

Passport is fine, but just curious, what state do you live in that it would take 2-3 weeks to get an ID?

Just recently I decided to get a state ID as a backup to all the other IDs I have, US passport, US passport card and FL DL.

I went to the county building in downtown Sarasota, FL and about 30 minutes and $10 later I had an official state ID in my pocket.

I live in Wisconsin. If you can believe it, we can get a DL in 10 minutes (like you did!) at the DMV, but to get a State ID, it must be processed and MAILED to you. I got 10-14 days straight from a representative of the DMV via email. I'm not sure if that's to process and mail or total time. Seeing as my trip is in 3 weeks, I may not have enough time.

You wouldn't believe the amount of paperwork you need to bring in for the State of Wisconsin, either. About 4 pieces of identification and the kicker --- when and if I get my drivers license back, I have to surrender the ID back to them. You're allowed to have one or the other, but not both!

I read somewhere that in California they are not allowed to use passports as proof of age for buying liquor, bar entry, etc. I wonder what they do with foreign tourists?

I just checked the Wisconsin DMV site and it's no different than our Florida offices. Yopu can go to any DMV facility and provide the following:

1 pc of photo ID - US Passport will do
Another piece of ID (A CC, school ID, work ID, etc...)
Proof of residence (a recent utility/cc statement)
SS number

That's it.

The way I read it it seems like you can just walk in and get the ID on the spot.

So, unless you want to do it through mail, you should be able to get one within an hour or so. Unfortunately WI ID is $28, ours is only $10.

I did not see anything that said you can't have both, the ID and DL. I think you got some bogus info.

In CA they say on the website: 4-6 weeks for ID. My husband renewed, and got in the mail maybe 1 week later.
