Las Vegas for one
 

Planning on treating myself for surviving breast cancer treatment by taking myself to Las Vegas. I am making this a real treat for me. I want a NICE hotel, fun stuff to do... What clothes to bring....I need some help from those that have been there. Planning to travel in March...Suggestions greatly appreciated.

Well you've picked a good time weather wise. You may run across a few rowdy Spring Breakers.
LOTS of choices for nice hotels, but if it were my money I'd stay at The Bellagio.

Congrats on being a survivor. I went a few years ago alone. I treated myself for leaving an abusive marriage. It was thrilling! I stayed at Mandalay Bay which was an amazing hotel. I just wasn't thrilled with it being all the way at the end of the strip. I loved the Venetian when I visited. Bellagio is beautiful but I think pricewise, you could do better. It depends on what you want. I wasn't in my room much although it was beautiful. I took a helicopter ride to the Grand Canyon and was lucky enough to be upgraded to the one that landed. We went horseback riding and it was great!! I saw a few shows and treated myself to a few nice dinners. Not sure if it was Spago or Puck or if they're the same, but the food was amazing. I believe it was in Caesar's though you really can't go wrong there.
I think you should plan some things but leave some room to discover. Also, if you go to old Vegas or downtown, its nice too. The laser show at night is nice. There's a restaurant, Hugo's in I think 4 Queens which had the best steak I've ever eaten. Enjoy and again, congratulations!

If I were going alone, and wanted to treat myself, I'd stay at the Palazzo on the concierge level.

Bellagio or Palazzo conceierge level for hotel. DW and I have two top restaurants we try to visit every trip...Joe's Stone Crab at Cesears and Emril's Delmonico Steakhourse in the Venetian. There's also a couple of nice small plates places, Firefly on Paradise and a tapas spot, whose name I can't recall on the terrace at Fashison Show Mall.
Away from the Stip, the tour of Hoover Dam is interesting, the drive thought Valley of Fire State Park to Lake Meades is also nice.
There's something new thar is a bit unusual, a helium ballon ride, the balloon is tethered so you don't drift off, but it goes 500 feet in the air for what must ve a tremendous view of the Stip and beyond. The twilight/night rides I think are about $30 per person.
Expect mild weather, not too hot, not too cold, but nights will be crisp in the desert.

When I am on my own in Vegas, I end up checking out all the outlet malls and doing an early Linner (Lunch/Dinner) to take advantage of the lower prices. I love to hit Mon Ami Gabi about 2ish, have a nice martini or glass of wine and lunch while watching the fountains. Of course, I am not much of a gambler.

Linner sounds great, fairygemgirl! sounds like you've got things figured out.

I think the Wynn is also very nice; and Encore.

I would try to do some shows as well; I love Jersey Boys.

I'd stay at the Bellagio and definitely get a lakeview room. The view of the fountains is absolutely gorgeous, and you'll feel like you're treating yourself.

Lots of info about the Bellagio.... When I origanlly looked it was a toss up between the Bellagio and the Mirage...
Is the Bellagio that much nicer?

Maybe it's because I grew up spending summers near a "real" lake, but I've never understood the "beauty" of those Bellagio fountains. A man-made pool with some sprinklers....I know that I'm in the minority here but it just made me shrug. Seems like a cheap way for a hotel to put on a "show" in front of the hotel without having to pay any performers like they do at TI, Caesars etc.

Anyway, Wynn or Encore might be a nice way to treat yourself while not breaking the bank, as they often have some promotional rates that are very inviting. Check back in late January for mention of their March promotions. The hotels in general won't have their "offers" for March up this far ahead...so you may want to wait a few weeks before booking. Also, March can bring some conventions and spring-break periods when rates are jacked up, you'll get the same room for 30% less if you avoid these periods. And if the pool is a deal-breaker for you, always call your hotel a week before your arrival to assure that it will not be under re-construction or maintenance as March/April is a famous time for this sort of closure.

bellagio is very central. I prefer it to the mirage. I love the seasonal display in the atrium. Fountains are very nice but not ooh, aaah. I would easily stay at the Wynn or Encore as well or instead. These are my top 3 properties on the strip.

The Bellagio is a beautiful hotel; the conservatory has elaborate seasonal displays that are neat to check out. The location is great. People come from miles around to watch the fountains, so it's neat to have your own up front seat. Beds are super comfortable. Very good restaurants. The best part though is the Jeanne Philippe Patisserie - great little dessert shop with the world's largest chocolate fountain - lol. Las Vegas has lots of great hotels; it's really hard to choose.

The Bellagio is WAY nicer than the Mirage...there is absolutely no comparison.

The Mirage lobby is ho hum, the casino is in desperate need of upgrading, but the location is fine. The Bellagio's lobby is awesome (the conservatory in particular is gorgeous), the fountains are beautiful, the casino is really nice (and has $5 blackjack table which is super rare on the strip) and the location is perfect.

The Bellagio is much nicer; however, the Bellagio is not as nice as the Wynn, and the Palazzo def. has nicer rooms. Newer means a lot in Vegas; rooms get worn quickly. I like to visit the Bellagio, but find it way very crowded and wouldn't want to stay.

From the sound of things it sounds like I should stay at the Bellagio. Also thanks for the suggestions of a latelunch/early dinner option I had not thought of that at all. The ballon ride souds AWESOME.... Keep the great suggestions coming. It really is helping me plan this.
I can't wait. after everything I have been through. I just want this to be my "trip of a lifetime"...
