Las Vegas for Christmas

Hi there,

My husband and I are considering going to Vegas for 4 days over Christmas. We normally spend Christmas with family but that's not possible this year. We're thinking Vegas because we can get a really good air/hotel deal.

What are some of your thoughts or opinions on Vegas during the holidays. I assume everything is open as usual. Would it be decorated for the holidays? Any special things to do? Any hotels which may have pools open...outdoor heated or indoor? We would be staying right on the strip someplace like the Wynn or Ceasar's.

Thanks for any help!
Sadie

My first trip to Vegas was right before Christmas. It was decorated, but many of the pools are closed so check with your hotel.

High temperatures would probably be in the mid- to upper-50s.

Definitely the Bellagio would be decorated; they do a seasonal display in the Conservatory.

I figured I'd be out of luck with the pool thing. I know Dec is one of their coldest months. I think they had snow for Christmas last year! We'd take a day trip to the Grand Canyon for sure (haven't been there since 2001), but the rest of the time may be spent just hanging out on the strip.

I'm thinking a nice bit of our time may be spent being lazy in the room (because we can't be lazy by a pool) so I'm wondering if anyone has an opinion between Wynn & Ceasar's. If you end up with just their basic room, which would you think is nicer. We would try to upgrade if we could but if we can't or the price is too high to do so, we'd probably end up with the least expensive room.

Any thoughts on who's basic room is nicer. It's between Ceasar's & the Wynn because the hotel/airfair pricing is abougt the same for both.

Any opinions?

Thanks,
Sadie

I have not stayed at either, but judging from their casinos, I would say the Wynn. The casino was so elegant!

I went last year, the day after it snowed, and it definitely was cold. Take your heavy winter coat, gloves, and hat if you are going to be out after dark.

As far as decorations, I was actually a little disappointed in how un-Christmas it felt. Of all the hotel/casinos I went into, the Bellagio was definitely the best decorated. I would also check out the Venetian - I think they had some beautiful trees up. I don't know if the rest of the Christmas decorations got lost in all the glitz of Las Vegas or if they were just nonexistent, but I just remember thinking that I expected more Christmas from Vegas.
