Thanks a million Frankie. Will check it out. :-)

Little_Man Jul 23rd, 2008 05:05 PM

you are welcome! I'm sure there are some others who have more info, too.

I felt old at the Palms and I'm 31.

Although 70 now appears "young" to me, I guess you could say that, compared to me, my in-laws ARE "old"; by their behavior, anyway. LOL :-) Hugs to my seniors out there.

blahblah, thanks for your humorous post. Gee, I HOPE they offer special treatment for birthdays, I'll be there on mine! LOL

A couple of thoughts on earlier posts:

1. you'll have a better chance of finding lower limit tables Downtown. Would not recommend walking between the Strip and Downtown, as the area in between is unsafe -- there are cabs and a city bus that connect the two.

2. I found the monorail useless. It runs behind the casinos on the eastern side of the Strip, but it's a very long walk from the monorail stops to the street. As slow as the city bus is that runs down the Strip, it's more useful for getting around this area.

bachslunch, I'm sorry you found the Monorail useless. I loved it. And it let me out right at the front door of the Hilton where I was staying.

It was clean, fast, efficient and affordable, IMHO.

To each his own! :)

affordable? It's $5 one way, and you can't hop on and off if you are going one way, each time would be $5. Sounds like a rip off to me.

sarge56 Jul 28th, 2008 03:44 PM

amelie, I paid $9 for an unlimited one day pass. Was worth it to me.

amelie Jul 28th, 2008 04:37 PM

When was this? We were there in June and all the information I read mentioned $5 rides, nothing about $9 all day rides.

Just looked it up and one site mentions $15 for all day (which I do seem to recall and sharing a cab among 2 couples was cheaper), and another site mentions a July internet special of $9 all day.

amelie Jul 28th, 2008 04:38 PM

ps. For most of the casinos it does let you off at the back of the casino.

If you want a low roller destination, consider Laughlin or Reno.

NeoPatrick Jul 28th, 2008 05:08 PM

Sarge, I think you were lucky. The Hilton is considered way out of the way -- or it always was, but the monorail has made it easily reachable from the rest of the strip. It is literally the only hotel for which the monorail is a huge bonus!

I just got back last night. I think I saw $5.00 blackjack tables at O'Sheas which is on the strip.
