LAS VEGAS DAY TRIP TO DEATH VALLEY HELP !
I am planning on taking a trip to las vegas in the middle of Febuary. I would like to visit Death Valley as a day trip. I am planning on leaving around 7 in the morning and satying until sunset. I am getting mixed reviews about this. Is death valley about 2 and a half hours from vegas. I plan on taking 95 north to Amargosa Valley, then south on 373 to Death Valley Junction. then I plan on taking 190 west to furnace creek. It seems like the best route. I plan on seeing the dunes, Zabraskie point, devils golf course, artists drive, dantes view and definatley badwater. Is this a good idea? I need all the help I can get

My wife and I took this trip in April 2001. I thought it was worth its while. I think it was a little less than 2.5 hours. We're from the east coast. so the desert and topography were a novelty to us. It was an interesting ride. It was kind of chilly in Vegas during our stay, but In death valley we had great weather, about 80 degrees and clear skies. Driving out there I remember seeing snow on the side of the road and the elevation increased. We golfed at furnance creek whick is the worlds lowest lying golf course. I think it was about 200 feet below sea level. The course was well worth it in my opinion. There were coyotes running around the course too. They didn't bother you though : ) |
Be sure you get the tour of Scotty's Castle, interesting!

I did this as a day trip during a home exchange in Henderson, NV (right outside LV) several years ago. It is very doable.
