Las Vegas - Circus Circus is out, what about the LV Hilton?
I decided this needed a new thread, since I'm no longer asking opinions about Circus Circus. I've been talked out of staying there and now I'm considering the Hilton by the Convention Center. It at least gets several nice reviews.
My question about that is, how far of a walk is it from there to the Riviera? We're going for a pool tournament that's being held at the Riviera and I don't want to have to walk too far in the heat - although I suppose a taxi is always an option, at least during the hottest part of the day. To repeat what I said in my previous post, I don't care about how fancy it is or even how close it is to other "hot" hotels and casinos on the Strip. I care about cleanliness, comfort, and safety. And convenience to the Riviera - I don't want my husband to have to play in his tournaments after hiking too far in the heat. It would be nice if they had good food there but I expect to be at the Riviera most of the time so that's not really an issue either.
It doesn't look like there are any other realistic options unless we want to give up the convenience of being near the Riviera. I wouldn't say money is no object, because it is, but we don't need the absolute cheapest room in town. Of course, the tournament people booked the rooms at Circus Circus with the players doubling up, so we could always stay at CC in the same room with another player and his wife and get the room for free, but I really, really don't want to do that. We can afford a decent room and would prefer the privacy and better sleep of having our own room.
So, bottom line, how bad is the walk from LV Hilton to the Riviera's back entrance?
Thanks for the help! This will be my husband's first (and probably only) trip to Vegas and I hate for him to end up in a sleaze-bag hotel and leave with the impression that that's what Vegas is like. But convenience to the tournament is pretty important, too.

Hi cslasor -- We've stayed at the LV Hilton many times, and my DW prefers the blackjack tables at Riveria so we've also made the walk several times. The walk to the Riveria isn't bad. I don't think it any longer walk than from Ceasers to the Mirage. Depending on when you're going I'd still consider a taxi in the heat of the day if we're talking typical LV summers temps.

I have just read your first post so now understand your dilemma. I think the Hilton is a poor choice due to having to get taxis all the time as I personally would not want to do the long walk expecially in the heat. Have you enquired at the Riviera about the petite suites or one bedroom suites, they may be affordable if you consider the taxis you would have to take if you don't manage to stay nearby.

It's at least 10 or 15 minutes by foot from the Hilton to the Riviera. I've done the walk in August and survived, but it was kind of hot. There's certainly no cover. But it's doable, and the Hilton is a pretty nice hotel.
But given how cheap LV has gotten recently have you checked prices at the Wynn or the Encore? You might be able to afford one. Just a thought. It's farther from the Riviera, but it's not a long cab ride. There aren't very many nice hotels at the extreme north end of the Strip.
Having said that, I've stayed at the Riviera, and it's not a horrible hotel by any means. It's cheap, and the rooms are motel-like, but it's not a horrible place to stay. The pool is small and not very good, but if you're going to be there anyway, you could do worse. It's certainly no worse than Circus Circus.

Thanks everybody. It sounds like the Hilton-Riviera walk is longer than I'd like so I'll keep trying to get a room at the Riviera (they're booked for the dates we'll be there) and the worst that'll happen is we'll stay at CC. I'm sure we'll manage to survive.
As much as I'd love to stay at the Wynn or Encore, it's just too far away. One good thing about CC is that's where the rest of the pool league team will be.
But next summer my sister and I, along with her daughter and my daughter-in-law are planning a Girls Trip to Vegas and I promise we'll be staying at one of the really nice hotels. That'll give me something to look forward to!

cslasor, just so you know, it's at least a 10 to 15-minute walk between almost any two hotels in LV, even those that are next door to each other. That's something you will just have to deal with ... or take the bus or a taxi. To be frank, I don't think it takes any less time to get to Circus Circus than to the Hilton. It might be a little closer, but you still have to get across the Strip.

Many strip hotels offer easy entertaining walks to other hotels, so you have choice. LV Hilton has a long, dusty walk mundane walk to the closest hotels.
With that said, if you have a car or dont mind paying $15/ride to leave, the LVHilton is fine.

We attend a trade show at the Riviera once a year. Some folks from the show do stay at CC. It's a much easier walk than from the Hilton! CC is "OK"... I have stayed there. It just isn't my first choice.
DS was at a Riv pool tourney back in May/June. Prices at the Riv (because the tourney was there) seemed high. He had a rental car, so he stayed elsewhere.
