Las Vegas Choices - Please help pick either/or!

Hi all!

Choosing between two French bistros:
Bouchon at Venetian or Mon Ami Gabi in Paris
Can anyone compare food, service, atmosphere, wow factor?
(If it helps with the decision, the other "fancy" dinner is Prime at Bellagio.)

Also, deciding on a show. Torn between Zumanity at NYNY, Reve at Wynn, or the classic O at Bellagio. Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance for any help!

I don't know those restuarants, but I've heard that both of the Cirque De Soleil shows are awesome. O is suppose to be amazing so I would go with that one!

the wow factor restaurant for me was Picasso in the Bellagio....I mean WOW!

Between the food, service, fountains and being surrounded by all the beautiful Picassos really can't be compared to anything. It ws my birthday dinner last year and the chef made me a special dessert with my name on it and came out to wish me a happy birthday. It was a memorable dinner!

Don't want to confuse you with your choices. Prime was an excellent steakhouse, but it is a steakhouse. I'm not saying it wasn't good, it was - steak, potatoes, but it could not compare to Picasso. Prime is equal to any top rated steakhouse in any town, Picasso is special.

O is an amazing show. It leaves me speechless every time I see it. My DH says that's quite a feat...

Zumanity is much more sexual in nature and not up my alley, so I can't recommend or not recommend it. Others have said they have enjoyed it, so do a search for it if you're interested. Just be aware that it is adult in nature and supposedly pushes the envelope in some cases.

I've heard La Reve is very similar to O as it has a water stage and was directed/produced by the same guy who created O. The local reviewers said it was TOO much like O, deeming it Cirque du Cliche (sp?). I thought that was funny, but if it is like O, it's on my list. The official advertisement for is is "a small collection of imperfect dreams". Intriguing.

Not to confuse the issue, but the MGM also has a cirque show that's been generating buzz. Ka is new there and has multiple elements involved, including fire. It's on my list as well, but it's still new so there hasn't been a ton of reviews on it yet.

If you've seen O before, I would recommend one of the other shows, just for variety. I don't know when you're going, but I think that any of the 4 shows would be unavailable last minute, so advance ticket purchases are recommended!

I can't comment on either French restaurant, but I adore Prime. That's our traditional anniversary spot and we always feel like royalty there. Maybe the Bellagio restaurants are just really good at service... Picasso sounds amazing, too! Make sure and ask (read bribe/tip) the matre'd (these darn French words!! - the guy/girl at the front) to get a lakeview table. It's amazing and well worth the extra few bucks and wait.

We have had lunch at Mon Ami Gabi and we enjoyed the outside deck. I didn't really think it had a "wow" factor but it was nice. Have not eaten at the other restaurant.

If you can get tickets to "O", I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it. My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed the show.

forgot to add my .02 about O. It was the most amazing show I have ever seen (I live in NY and have seen lots of shows). I had to see it twice it was so amazing. The closer you can get to the stage, the better, don't be put off by "splsh zone"--there are no words ot describe how amazing it is. It's like a Dali painting come to life.

We saw O and then had dinner at Mon Ami Gabi and had a fabulous evening that we reminisce about a lot! Mon Ami Gabi might now be a 'wow' kind of place but it was one of the best steaks I've ever had and really loved the atmosphere. Kind of a good change of pace from the casinos. I think O will provide enough 'wow' factor for the evening!

Hi Dreamer2,

Bouchon at the Venetian is owned by Thomas Keller, are you familiar with him? It is a very nice, can be expensive bistro with very good food. Foie gras, huge 3 tiered seafood trays, fancy french bistro. It's good, I've eaten there a few times.

Mon Ami Gabi is more relaxed and not as expensive. It's not a decadant- more real bistro food- steak frites, grilled fish, etc. I have also eaten here a lot. Nice views of the Bellagio fountains across the street if you get a table in the garden room or the patio.

If you just like bistro food go to Mon Ami Gabi. If you LOVE Thomas Keller go check out Bouchon. The original is in Napa by the way.

I personally loved Zumanity as it is so different. But we saw many people walk out. It is a bit racey and lewd but it is in Vegas!!! Haven't been to Reve. O is exactly what you said.... a classic. What are you in the mood for? Sexy, racey, adult humor or classic Cirque family fun?

Keller is the man, the myth, the legend, behind the great : French Laundry in Napa area. 3 months' advance reservations. (one of the top 50 restaurants in the world, according to one online source.)

One of our staff toured the French Laundry, and wrote for the San Jose Mercury News. I will search for the link...

We always eat at Mon Ami Gabi when we are in Vegas. I just like the atmosphere and the food is very good. As a matter of fact, I hope to have dinner there in the not too distant future!

Yes, I thought that was the case. Just wondering how the LV rendition measures up... If Mon Ami is mostly steaks, I guess Bouchon wins. Unless it's Mon Ami and Picasso...

Seems like any of the shows would be great. Zumanity wouldn't bother me, and no kids will be along, so perhaps that's a possibility instead of the classic Vegas showgirl stage show. Although I'm not a huge Cirque de Soliel fan, I did want to see something of genre, since it is so "Vegas-y." I have another post regarding Havana Nights, and would definitely

We just ate at the French laundry and toured the kitchen too (also had Keller autograph our menu) I'd love to read that story if you find it.

Dreamer2 make sure to make ressies at Bouchon or wherever you go. Busy, busy, busy!! It's in the NEW tower at Venetian

Just to complicate things, I will suggest Pinot Brasserie at the Venetian. An excellent and authentic feeling French Bistro. We really really liked it, much better than dinner at Mon Ami Gabi. Mon Ami Gabi is good for lunch or brunch. IMO.
Prime is a good choice
Show: O

Thank you all for the great suggestions. I'll keep checking back to see if any more reviews are added.

Also, for nightclubs, I've focused on VooDoo @ Rio (always gets great reviews here), Studio 54 @ MGM (for old times sake), and Rum Jungle @ Mandalay Bay (the decor sounds unique). Any comments?

Hi Dreamer2, I'm so sorry I dodn't see this post sooner.

Re: Bouchon vs. Mon Ami Gabi: I haven't eaten at Bouchon yet but I can give the opinion of pharmaceutical reps that wine and dine 4 nts per week.... several have told me that Bouchon is their favorite restaurant in LV, food service and quality. If you check the Venetian's website you will see Bouchon has won quite a few awards. I love Mon Ami Gabi but would take a chance for Bouchon first by reputation alone. Mon Ami Gabi is great for people watching outside the strip and the crepe desserts are terrific, a must have if you opt for Mon Ami.

Have not seen Zumanity though people I know that have gone have enjoyed the show a lot, and I'm sure you know it is risque. Also have not seen Reve yet but from what I understand the show is not running perfectly yet, I don't know when you're visiting but if you are hesitant about spending the $$ you may want to wait a a month or two. The O show I've seen several times and really enjoy it, though I prefer Mystere because I am not a particular fan of O's clowns. The rest of the O show is amazing, but overall I am a Mystere fan, mho only.

Regarding nightspots, they are always changing where the hippest (whatever that means) people go. I am not a fan of the Voo Doo lounge but that's me. The Palms is always the hottest spot for beautifuls but there are also very, very, long lines. Rehab on the weekends at the Hard Rock is also where you'll find some beautifuls as well as celebs. Mix Lounge at the top of the Mandaly Bay is also a new hot spot. If that #1 scene is not most important to you than Rum Jungle is great for ambience. It is so pretty inside. If you want to know the absolute hottest spots let me know, I'll ask my hair stylist. He is young, has a lot of connections and clients from all walks of LV life as well as friends that work at strip night clubs. Wynn's night clubs may be off to a rocky start, when I was in Lure one month ago on a Saturday night at 11:30 pm it was deader than a door nail. Things may have improved since

Just wanted to add that the above mentioned Pinot Brasserie is excellent. The specialty shellfish platter for two is delicious and enough for 4

Prime is mixed. While Prime was excellent when both I and my dad dined there on sep. occasions I thought it was good but not "the best" as a lot of people say Again, these are opinions and subject to personal tastes

Thank you so much TravelinWifey. I love your excellent and detailed information.
I will definitely ask you to "ask your stylist" once we have our date pinned down! We will probably go in the early fall.
Bouchon sounds like a keeper. I hope the prices aren't as steep as FL! (It's not running $250-$300 per person is it? And FL ex-sous chef is operating in Portland, Maine - excellent, but literally Tablespoon size portions!)
Your comments regarding Prime are helpful, too. I want to go to a Steakhouse one night; since they are so prevalent in LV, I figure they've got to be competitive, and therefore excellent. But I don't want a chain I can visit anywhere (Schula's, Flemmings, RuthChris). I've heard that Prime is the most romantic restaurant in Vegas. Is that so? How is the food/atmosphere over at Joe's in Ceasars?
Picasso sounds heavenly, but I don't want to make both splurges French. I think Mon Ami Gabi is a definite for an evening crepe! The seafood doesn't tempt me as much, as I am on Cape Cod and the Maine coast frequently.
StormyGirl, JBee, Annabel, TW, and everyone else... I really love your input, love this board, and appreciate your thoughtful help!

PS. Just noticed that the beginning of my post is already up. ??? I think I hit "tab" a couple times accidently, but was able to "back" back to my "edit." Oh well, technology...

PPS. So glad you mentioned the clowns! My husband hates clowns! Funny, funny. So, O might not be the right choice for us... I'm leaning towards Zumanity.
