Las Vegas - Cabs
 

We are staying at the Imperial Palace when we go to Las Vegas next month. My understanding is that you should tell the cab/taxi driver the route you want to take something about avoiding a tunnel?? I don't even remember a tunnel last time I was there 10 years ago :). Anyways, what route do I tell the cab driver to take.

Do you mean from the airport to the hotel? Sometimes the driver will suggest the freeway (usually further), sometimes surface streets (could take longer, but shorter), depending on traffic etc and where your hotel is located.

Other than that possibility I can't figure out what you are asking.

There are many threads on LV TA forum about tunneling.. what would be a $11-15 ride often goes to $25, when a few of the bad ones take advantage.
Many people request a route due to that, i.e., Swenson to Paradise, or such.. or request No tunnel please, at the outset.

I had it happen once. To add insult to injury, the leather clad Neanderthal informed me that the hotel had an airport shuttle. I didn't think to get his cab #.
Lived and learned since.

Just tell him Imperial Palace hotel via Swenson, not the tunnel please. Another thing you can say is "I only have about $22 on me, will that get us to Imperial Palace?"

Have you thought about takiing a shuttle bus from the airport?

Rates are $7 to the hotel.

I was there in April. Paid $6 from the airport on the shuttle. I wasn't in a hurry so it was fine. It didn't really take all that long and I got to see some of the other hotels.

Yes TA talks about tunneling all the time. It's such a problem that there is a complaint process for it as well. I would just make sure that your cab driver knows you don't wish to go to your hotel via the tunnel.
