Las Vegas - Best Time 2 go????
 

Me and my fiancee are planning a trip to Vegas. Problem is we want to go when it's not so busy. We already know we're gonna leave on a Sunday and leave on a Thursday. We were thinking June. Can anyone help? We also would like to make a dinner reservation somewhere..can anyone help us decide where? I've heard Wolfgang Puck has a nice restaurant with good food.

June is very hot in Las Vegas, over 100 degrees in the shade. Best moths weather wise are October and April, temps in the low to mid 80s.

Thanks for the reply. Being hot doesn't bother us as much as Overbearing Crowdedness (if thats a word..LOL) We know Vegas will always be crowded but wanted to get a feel of when it won't be AS crowded. Thanks.

If you don't mind the heat, July/Aug is best, as well as the 2 weeks before Christmas (except when the rodeo is in town, but that's usually a little earlier).<BR><BR>As far as restaurants go, there is the entire range, literally everything from soup to nuts... what type of food do u like and what price range, and then i'm sure we'll be in a better position to give you ideas.<BR><BR>Since you'll be there Sun-Thur, be sure to stay on the strip, anywhere between MGM and Treasure Island.

Wolfgang Puck has a few restaurants in LV. Two that I can think of are Spago (great for lunch) and Chinoise (Chinese). Both are in Ceasars.<BR>We usually go to LV in August and March. March is a great time to be there. The temps are in the 70's, great for all the walking on the strip, take a hike in Red Rock Canyon, eat out on the terrace at Olives in the Bellagio.<BR> Some restaurants that I can think of right now that I like are<BR>Circo in the Bellagio,<BR>Olives &quot; &quot; &quot;<BR>Emerils (on a week night)MGM<BR>Napa in the Rio<BR>Voodoo Lounge for dinner or drinks-Rio<BR>That's all I can think of now-browse through the posts on here about Vegas, you will get tons of info!<BR>

The slowest period in LV is the 2 weeks prior to Xmas.<BR>Many of the shows are dark then, room rates are low, and it's cool weather wise.<BR><BR>The rest of the year you cannot predictable say that any one week will be slow. Conventions and such cause dramatic fluctuations in traffic and room rates from week to week.<BR><BR>As for Puck's restaurants, I've been especially disappointed in them the past 2 years. In fact, we ate at a couple last month and said we'll skip his restaurants from now on until we hear something has changed. Very average food, and presentation and atmosphere are not 'special' compared to other things available in LV.

Thanks everyone!!! You have all been very helpful. I guess we will skip Wolfgang Pucks for now ;o) Our price range for dinner is $50 per person. My fiancee is eager to see the Aquarium in the Mandalay Bay, has anyone been there? Also, any suggestions as to what is a MUST see?

Try Spagos for lunch at Ceasars....it's still good, price is right and the atomsphere is great. The aquarium at MB is nice so is the pool, casino and sports gaming area.

The Acquariam is great! Fun to walk across a glass floor with sharks swimming around:) Don't miss it, then take the tram back to Ballys.(I think it goes as far as Ballys)<BR>Things to see:<BR>The pirates fighting at Treasure Island.<BR>The volcano at the Mirage.<BR>The Venetian <BR>The Canals at the Venetian<BR>The lions at MGM<BR>The tigers at the Mirage<BR>Shop at Ceasars Forums<BR>Lunch:<BR>Spago<BR>L'Ami something at Paris :) (can't remember names this morning-too much New Years champagne)<BR>Have cocktails at the Voodoo Lounge at sunset...you can see over the entire city, off to the mountains, amazing sight!<BR>

Jessica,<BR>Your better off getting the brunch at Circus Circus or the footlong hot dog at Slots unlimited then to eat a Spagos or any of Wolfgang Pucks places to eat. He's overrated.

If you wanted to do something outside of Vegas you could go to the Grand Canyon or the Hoover Dam. You could get info on these with the concierge at your hotel.

Last night on the news they showed a climber who had fallen at Red Rock Canyon and they had to helicopter the person to a hospital.<BR>Go and hike but be careful!<BR>Spago is good for lunch. Salads are very good, breads and sandwiches are good. Better than a hot dog!<BR>There are a few good lunch places at the Venetian.

For $50 per person you can eat at a variety of really good restaurants in LV.<BR>Spago is not one of them.<BR>We went there recently based on recommendations from this forum.<BR>What a disappointment.<BR>The Wolfgang Puck restaurant in the airport at LAX is no worse.<BR><BR>For $100 per couple go somewhere memorable like Bellagio restaurants overlooking the fountains--Olives (for lunch) or Circo. Or Mon Ami Gabi out on the sidewalk at Paris.<BR>The choices are numerous.

From a friend who returned from a Christmas trip to LV, I just heard of a place called Hugo's Cellar - romantic, intimate, great food, great service. Not on the Strip. It would be at the outer edge, or might exceed a bit, your budget...but she said it would be worth going back to Vegas just to re-visit the restaurant. AND, it's not a la carte, which many of the fine restaurants are...so that means the rather high entree prices (which include everything in your meal, plus dessert) actually give you a whole lot of bang for your buck. Lotus of Siam is a FFaaaaaaab Thai restaurant in a small strip mall off the Main Drag.

If you read chowhound.com (food addict's site) there are often raves for Lotus of Siam and some other strip mall Asian place I can't recall.<BR><BR>Lots of good info at that site, and IMO it is very reliable info. These are mostly people who are really into food.

There is so much to do and see that its impossible to give you a complete list. We always wander around and see everything. One day we hit 7 casinos in a day. You don't get much sleep out there.<BR>As for a must do sightseeing: You should watch the fountains of Bellagio from the balcony. Go to the bar on the second floor and just head out the door. Grab a table and order a beer for $5, then just relax and watch the show from the best seats in the house. <BR><BR>As for picking a hotel, I really recommend cheapovegas.com. It is a really funny web site written by some guy in his 20's and his friends. They really hit the nail on the head the way they describe things.<BR><BR>As for the crowd, it is really hard to avoid the mania. We have always coped by spending the morning driving into the desert. Either red rock canyon, which is amazing, or hoover dam. It really helps to get out of there for part of the day and the contrast between the Vegas scene and the vast open desert is is amazing.<BR>Have fun.
