Las Vegas- Best hotel (kids and pool open in winter)
 

HI! We are going to be in Vegas for two nights in early March b/f going on to Zion and then skiing in Utah. We will have our two little kids with us and we don't need to gamble. We originally thought we'd stay at the Four Seasons and enjoy the pools at Mandalay, but most of the pool area will be closed when we are there in March. Any suggestions for a hotel that is very nice and has nice pool(s) open in March?

Avg high temp in March is 69 degrees F. Are you sure a pool is that important?

Bellagio has a fabulous heated pool.

It's been a few years, but the Bellagio and Wynn would both close their pools at the least bit of drizzle, and I mean shut down. Not sure that's still true, but any reason to keep you at the casinos. . . and that includes no access after the sun goes down.

So long as it isn't freezing, our kids will want to swim and it really makes a vacation for us to have a pool. I can check with the Bellagio to see if their pool is open all year. Anyone have thoughts on Mandarin or which is better with kids?

I just saw the MGM Grand says its pools are open year round..is this a very nice hotel?

Yes.

Bellagio pool was open in January 2009 when I spent a few days there. We swam every day.

Venetian and Wynn also keep their pools open, I believe. All of the hotels have 800 numbers so you can call toll free and discuss the pool situation.

Do you think Bellagio is appropriate for kids?

I did not see kinds but I was there after the holiday season so school would have started. There are no slides or stuff like that oriented toward children, and the whole feel of the place appears that they are trying for a sophisticated adult ambience. But I can't see why kids could not swim there. The pool itself is fabulous and even though the temps were in the 60s, the water was wonderful.

Believe it or not, I was much more interested in swimming and restaurants than in casinos or shows. We had a really good time on that trip.

Again, I think you should call the hotels and ask about the pools...

Also check Caesar's Palace; at least one of their pools is open in winter but I am not sure if they would welcome children..

Several of the hotels have adult (topless) pools - but I'm not sure if they are open that time of year. I would call each hotel and check what they have open and if it is appropriate/fun for kids.

MGM is fine - but has a convention center attached and tends to have a lot of business travelers.

I think it will be Bellagio since it does look nice and the pool appears to be open and warm al winter long. If anyone has any other suggestions, I'd welcome them!

One logistical question: Would taking a cab be the easiest way to get to the hotel? I think we will rent a car on Monday (to get to Zion and on to UT) instead of after the long flight and I don't think we need a car for 2 days.

The Bellagio is not keen on having little kids int their hotel. I don't know if they've relaxed that stance, but you can call and ask. I think they were trying to avoid distractions to other adult guests like kid meltdowns in the lobby and and stroller brigade.

Even though a pool is open year-round, you'll still need to call the hotel a week or so before your visit to discuss scheduled maintenance and unforseen pool closures. MGM has 3 or 4 different pool areas and might be the best bet for kids.
Average temp in March might be 69, but in early March you're probably more likely to encounter 59 degree temps for much of the day. Brrrrr.....

I will call the Bellagio both for their pool being open and for their apparent distaste for children...their pool sounds great so I hope they like kids! I'm afraid I might be disappointed in MGM...do any of them have a better location?

We liked Mandalay Bay a lot (as of a few years ago). Get a room with a view of the strip - it just sparkles at night and is very pretty to look at from high above street level.

About taking the taxi: We planned to do that, but when I researched renting a car for the three days of our trip, it turned out to be very inexpensive. Parking inside the hotels is free and I think if you add up cab fares to and from the airport, you might be able to get a car for about that price, as long as you are already renting for one day....

The Platinum is a well priced newer condohotel with an indoor outdoor pool. It gets great reviews on tripadvisor.

Re: transportation, we will be going on to Zion then to ski in Utah so we will need to rent something at some point, I just thought it would be easier to not have a car with us Sat-Mon and then rent something on Monday b/f we leave.

I am very torn about where to stay...being a hotel snob and not gamblers, I really wanted the Four Seasons and am so disappointed that their pool will not be open. I'll keep my mind open and take your ideas to heart. I appreciate everyone's input and I will post a trip report!

if their pool is not open (we were there a week ago and it was not)...you can have access to the paris pool (10min walk).
it was good....lot of children there.

We stayed a few times at the Hyatt Lake Las Vegas and it has a fun pool with a slide - and little to no gambling - a decent spa... but it out in Lake Las Vegas - and no idea if the pool is open in March - it can be VERY cold in March in Vegas - I have even been there in March when it snowed...
