Las Vegas and Nascar

I want to surprise my husband with a long weekend in Vegas for Nascar.

The dates are Feb28-Mar3 2008.

Has anyone been there during this event? What was your experience?

Does anyone have a comment on Circus Circus? Online the travel pakages with hotel/air have it for hundreds of dollars less than other hotels. Is it obvious?

I was only in Vegas once before and stayed at the Flamingo. I was very pleased. Is $600.00 more for 4 nights worth it over C.C.?

Believe it or not, I have. My husband's company sponsors a car and so we have been. It was crowded but no more so, I am guessing, than any other big weekend. Most of our weekend was filled with business events and dinners so I am not to sure what else goes on. One thing I do know is that the road to the track is a simple two lane highway and that the traffic can get horrible and take hours and hours. Many corporate bigwigs and the racers all helicopter in as the traffic is so bad. Sadly, we have not quite made it to copter status so we just went super early (left at 8am?) and had breakfast in our suite at the track.

Have fun. If your husband is a big NASCAR guy, I am sure he will be very surprised and very happy.

Do a search on Circus Circus and read other's comments before committing to staying there. It doesn't exactly get raves.

I've never been there, but a friend of mine has and to quote her: "I'd rather poke my eye out with a hot stick than stay at that place." She said there were kids running around everywhere and it was a zoo--er, circus. There's a reason it is so much cheaper than every place else on the strip.

Stay at Bally's or the Flamingo if you want to be on the strip, or save $$ by staying off strip.

Thanks for the replies. Looks like the Flamingo would be a wise choice given all the verables.

I will go Lobby hopping during the day while my husband is at the races.

It is easy for me to amuse myself with people watching.

I wouldn't stay at Circus Circus. It's old and on the far end of the strip, so you'll have to commute to go to any other hotels.

Check out Bill's (previously Barbary Coast). It has much nicer rooms than Flamingo and it's next door, and usually cheaper. And you can use Flamingo's pool per their contract.

Other good cheaper options to consider are usually Luxor and Treasure Island. If you can check online for rates and post all your options in your price range, we can help pick the best one.

You might want to look at the Sahara as well, just because they have a Nascar themed area that you (or your husband) might enjoy.
