Las Vegas and Grand Canyon?

My husband is going to Vegas for work and I'm thinking of tagging along. We'll probably have a couple of days to ourselves and are thinking of going to the Grand Canyon. Is this possible? We'll be there at the end of April. How far is it? Is there something else we should do instead? We're also looking at going to a show in Vegas - any suggestions?

You'll have to go to the South Rim of Grand Canyon because the north rim will still be closed at the end of April.

Have you thought about visiting Zion or Bryce? Zion is only about 2 hrs. from Las Vegas and then Bryce is another hour from there.
We went to Zion and then down to the GC from there....if I'm remembering correctly it was another 3 or so hours from Zion to the south rim and then we looped back around to Vegas.
You can mapquest it to get the travel times.

It was fun to see the Grand Canyon but unless you're going to hike down, there's really not much to do but look at it and take pics.
Zion was our family favorite.

Have fun!

Zion is my favorite, too, but I think everyone should see the Grand Canyon sometime. It really is GRAND! It is about 4 to 5 hrs from Las Vegas to Grand Canyon. Many people do it as a day trip, but I wouldn't. You can stay there until dark and then drive to Flagstaff for the night. Then drive the 30 to 45 minute scenic drive down hwy 89 to Sedona. It is gorgeous.
Or spend the night in Grand Canyon on the rim, enjoy more of Grand Canyon scenery.

Fly to the south rim on Papillion Tours...only 1 hour each way. Once at the Rim, you get a bus tour and a lunch...the best way to go without the 10 hour round trip by bus/car.

You could also take a look at the G.C. South Rim tours available here:

Not the helicopter tours, the airplane tours. They have options that include 1 or 2, maybe more, nights at a hotel in the park.
