I have been to vegas many times and have mostly stayed on the strip and downtown.
I find myself now looking for an off strip hotel and casino. I have recently became an amputee and although I can get around, I have a new artitfical leg walking long distances is out of the question.
I am looking for a place I can spend 80% of my time at with a good sports book. A friend of mine suggested Sam's Town and I was wondering if anyone has stayed there and had any good or bad comments. I am planning on going for 5 days in the next couple of months. Any suggestions would be helpful.

Our friends have stayed at Sam's Town recently and really enjoyed it, they were pleased with the rooms and the general overall appearance of the Casino. The Hilton has the biggest Sports Book in Las Vegas, its fabulous.

We just returned from Vegas and stayed at a new hotel-casino next to Sam's Town. It is the Eastside Cannery and they currently have great room specials (29.95 Sun-Thurs). The rooms were very nice and had a small fridge.
Sam's Town Hotel-Casino centers around a "park" area with a light-laser show nightly. Sam's Town had a lot more families while Eastside Cannery had an older crowd. I don't know about the Sports Book at either place.

In the past two years, I have stayed at the Orleans, which is owned by the same company as Sam's Town. I highly recommend the Orleans: rooms are large, clean, comfortable, and very reasonably priced. Service has been excellent; every time that I have asked for a room in a specific location on a specific floor I have gotten it. If I want an extra pillow or more coffee for the room, I have gotten it. Check in is very fast.

The Orleans has a sports book with seating for about 200 people. About 150 seats are for racing and each has its own small television. About 50 seats are for sporting events. About 20 TVs are for racing,including one that is the size of a small house. About 10 TVs are for sports.

The Orleans has about 12 restaurants serving everything from fancy steak and seafood to buffet. There are four bars and excellent cocktail service, including the sports book.

If you want to go to the strip, the Orleans has a free shuttle.

Other extras include an on site liquor store, an Irish pub, a sports arena where they have ice hockey, and an excellent spa.

I would also recommend the Orleans, or it's sister hotel The Gold Coast. There is a shuttle between the two properties as well as to the strip.
Sam's doesn't come to mind as particularly amputee-friendly, as the casino is on two separate floors and the sportsbook is not close to the elevators or escalators. At any of these hotels, you'll need to request a room that is not too far from the elevators as some rooms can be quite a walk once you get up to your floor.
