I'm going to Vegas again, but this time not on official business, so I plan to priceline a rental car. Which agencies are on-site at LAS? Are any off-site? I'd prefer to avoid the dreaded shuttle bus (if there is one).

I know Avis, Budget, Enterprise are all "on-site", meaning you can check in for your vehicle at the airport. But you must take one of those shuttle buses. I don't think there is a rental car agency that has cars on the lot, but I could be wrong...

Thrifty for sure is off airport property. There is another one that is right next to Thrift but it is slipping my mind for some reason. It is still close only about a 5 minutes shuttle ride, but Thrify is OFF property. Hope this helps some.

Oh, it is Alamo that is also OFF property.

You take a shuttle to all of them. Alamo is just a farther ride, thru the tunnel. You can check in at the airport and then when you get to the Alamo lot you go directly to the car. Or just get on the shuttle and doing the paperwork at the office at the lot. If you use Alamo you need to pay attention to where the lot is so that you know where to return it. Don't just drive to the airport and expect to follow the sign to the rental car dropoffs.

What we do, and we go fairly often, is take a cab to the hotel. It's faster, less hassle and of course we avoid the dreaded shuttle bus. Dollar Car Rental has desks in most of the major hotels (at least the ones we stay in) and we get a car for a day or two from them. Much more civilized to pick it up in the hotel garage and return it there as well. We then take a cab back to a/p.

No - we probably don't save any money because cabs are expensive, but we save annoyance and time and that is worth something to us. Not everything is measured in money.

Alamo & National are a little further out but actually they are easier to get to (less traffic). The few times we did rent at the airport we used Alamo for that reason. You do need to pay close attention (i.e., look at map) where you return the car tho.

I forgot to mention, it is wise to reserve in advance from Dollar for hotel reservations. It's usually cheaper to do it on line too.

Thanks for the info. I'm staying with a friend and not on the Strip, so the rent-at-the-hotel option is not available.

I'll just see what comes up on priceline.

You can see if Enterprise has a local branch that will deliver the car to your friend's house. I think they do something like that at most locations now.
