Large rooms in Wine Country
I've been to Napa Valley once before and stayed at the Marriott. However, I'm looking for a different hotel/motel that is NOT geared toward couples. I'll be traveling with three of my close friends, and while we don't mind sleeping in two double beds, we don't want the "romantic" feeling of a bed and breakfast. Any suggestions? Oh, and budget IS a factor.

I stayed at the White Sulphur Springs Resort in St. Helena. We stayed in the wing that has you share a bathroom down the hall but that worked great for us because it was like college and being in the dorm. They also have other rooms that have their own bathrooms, and they have a sulphur pool (stinky, but it makes your skin really soft) and a spa on site.

You might consider renting a house for your stay. Depends on how long you'll be there, some places only rent for a week, but it might be worth checking out. There are many listings at vrbo.com, and also at napavalley.com you can find agencies and individuals renting homes. One place called Frog Hollow House sleeps six and costs $295 per night, located in old town Napa. I haven't stayed there, just found it while doing my own research. Good luck!

Meadowood has condos for rent--we stayed with another couple and their teens once. Two bedrooms and a sofa bed for the kids. It wouldn't be my first choice in Napa because it's very large and makes me think of a golf resort, but it sounds like it might work for you. Certainly a nice property--nice pool and good location. Don't know rates, but split 4 ways it should be OK. www.meadowood.com

The Villagio Inn in Yountville has very large rooms, some with two queen beds. It also has a great spa and pool and the price includes a champagne breakfast. You might want to check them out.

I had this dilemma recently when 4 of us (sisters) wanted to stay in the same room. It is very difficult to find a room in Napa or Sonoma for the non-romantic set. We went with the Lodge at Sonoma. The cottage room we got was quite large and had 2 double beds. Lots of people were there on business and we didn't get that feeling of being around couples. We stayed in cottage 5 which is in a great location near the pool. The room has iron and board in it as well as a real hair dryer that is not attached to the wall.

Nikki,
If you guys want something totally funky and without the romantic B&B feeling, try the Railway Inn in Younville.

Old railcars that are turned in to hotel rooms. About 12' wide and around 30' long! Has room for couch, chairs and a table in addition to the bed/s.

It's also located within walking distance to a lot of the good NV restaurants and shopping.

We've stayed there 3-4 times. Def not a 4* but fun and inexpensive compared to the others. You may have a min 2 day stay req. if you go on the weekends during hi-season.
Kal
ps to Suuuuz, Give me the winning Cal Lotto #s willya? I'm working too hard. :-(

There is an Embassy suites in Napa Valley. These are usually very nice and reasonably priced, and include breakfast.

Hey Kal where you been? No winning lotto number here just nose to grindstone. I've also taken your advice and set some goals. Going to Maui in the fall just don't have the actual countdown yet. When I do I'll be joining the countdown crowd.

I dont know if they rent it out to people not in the wine industry but Joseph Phelps has a renovated school house that I have stayed at several times that is large enough for all of you and is centrally located. There is 3 bedrooms and a nice kitchen. It is really cute. I know many couples who have shared it.

Suuuz, Recovering and working too much/traveling not enuff!

Good for your Maui c'down!
I read and hear where Hawaii businesses are finally catching on about lowering the rates to get more people t ocome over vs. raising them to make up for the losses. You hear the same?

We may go back to Kauai in June to meet the couple from the UK we've met there 2x before. Problem is Mrs Kal will be in Alaska for a marathon so we may fly into Kauai on different planes together!
If not, they have a 2 day layover in SF so I can play tourguide.
260.5 now....
Kal
