Large group lunch in San Diego. Will this work?

I am attending a high school reunion in San Diego. I am trying to arrange Saturday lunch.

Challenges:
1. I don't know how many people will attend.
2. They( ok, we) are old.
3. Everyone wants to order off the menu and have separate checks.
4. Our event is five days long and all the dinners have been arranged, including one in Old Town at a Mexican restaurant.

Will this work?

Thank you.

Your challenge about not knowing how many will attend is going to be a problem. You probably should have reservations if you want to all be together. Little Italy has some great restaurants and will most likely be packed on a Saturday.

Agree not having numbers and hence a reservation will be a problem. I was under the impression one could go to any of the six food stations to order then eat in a large courtyard. Is that not correct? I imagined this as something like a food court in a mall based on the website description.

That's what it looks like. I haven't been. But, it will be busy on a Saturday and no guarantee that you would all find seats at all, let alone together.. It would solve the separate checks issue, though.

Thanks, Barbara. I hope someone who has been will check in. The restrictions my group has make booking a near impossibility.

I think your Little Italy food court idea is a good one. Without having a firm headcount for a reservation, tell your group this is the way it has to be.

Are you able to give an approximate number, such as possibly 50 or so.
Not sure if that would work.
Good luck.

When I needed a venue for a casual evening reunion, I found that the places which make reservations for a larger group required a headcount, a cash deposit, and/or a guaranteed minimum tab. So separate tabs were problematic.
If seating is adequate at the place you have in mind, I’d say you’re set. It ticks all the other boxes. And people could mingle and circulate easier than some restaurants.

MoBro, you are right. I have been organizing these lunches for years. Sometimes I find a place with a broad enough menu to accommodate the group, willing to seat us together, not demand up front payment, do separate checks, etc I had no luck finding such a place in San Diego.

Thanks for the help!

I actually have hosted a bridal shower at a restaurant in Little Italy. While I love Little Italy the parking and amount of people there on a Saturday will be hard. They do have a farmers market on Saturday’s until 2pm. Have you thought about another location? We have gone to The Rose Wine Bar in South Park and it seems like it would be a good place for your group. The parking will not be as bad and there are cute shops etc. for walking around. You can just meet there and let people do thier own ordering/paying. The food was excellent.
