Lansing to Myrtle Beach

I'll be driving from Lansing to Myrtle Beach for the first time in June any suggested routes? things to avoid? any advice at all would be appreciated. I wanted my son to experience an old fashioned road trip, he's pretty spoiled with getting to fly all the time. Thank you.

Welcome to Fodors! Drive to and stay in Beckley West Virginia (7.5 hours). If you want a nice side trip in the morning, try to see the New River Gorge Scenic River before heading to Myrtle Beach (about 6.5 hours).
